The memories Danielle and Nathan’s wedding party shared were priceless—from years of friendship to the adventures that shaped them along the way.

2 Weddings 900 Miles Apart in 1987! 💒

We met a lovely couple at the recent showcase who we’re married on 10/24/87 at St. Cecilia’s Church now The Arches. Larry and I were married in Epworth, Iowa one week earlier on 10/17/87.

Seeing their photos we couldn’t help but notice that even though one wedding was in the East in PA and the other in the Midwest in IA there were many similarities.

💍 church ceremonies were common
💍 balloons were popular in 1987
💍 white & ivory were better for both of us than mauve & blue which were popular
💍 shorter bridesmaids dresses
💍 bouquets on our dresses were a thing
💍 videos were taken on a tripod 🤷‍♀️
💍 weddings were simpler
💍 IG, FB & Pinterest weren’t around

One of the funnier things that we didn’t realize til after hosting weddings at The Arches was how beautiful backdrops our backdrop could have been. At the Midway Hotel in Dubuque, Iowa where we hosted our wedding our backdrop was two swinging doors where waitstaff served our 315 guests a delicious family style dinner. (Our wedding was the smallest of my family who had 500-700 guests)

Our beautiful bridesmaids had the coatrack behind them. 🤦‍♀️😬

I could go on…..we want our couples to know that they should have the wedding that they envision and works for them. And most importantly is to focus on the ceremony and that you’re getting married surrounded by those that love you. That’s why at The Arches, we are happy to offer couples a beautiful and customizable venue. We truly want them to have a stress free Iowa kind of wedding day. 🌽🥂💍🤍 In the background of the balloon photos is where I spent 1st-4th grade. ❤️❤️

We realize not every venue can grab those amazing shots from above — and we actually have TWO balconies to make it happen.

Danielle and Nathan took full advantage of the back balcony for some really fun moments — the flower girl dropping petals on Danielle as she started down the aisle, the big group shot, and even the bouquet and garter toss. This is the group that Danielle and Nathan can count on.

You’re getting to see the prep and the photo that the photographer created. Now we can’t wait for the photographer’s photos because we can’t be everywhere at once while all these memorable moments are happening!
