Happy Holidays Everyone!

As the year comes to a close, we wanted to give an update of where things are and where things could be headed for WOBZ Arts and Illustration!

This year we have put a lot of focus behind the scenes working on a new studio space to better provide us with an environment to grow. We have also worked on bringing art to you guys, in new ways, within new outlets.

First, we are excited to announce WOBZAI is currently working on concepts for a fully illustrated children’s book! The author and I hope to have things in a presentable state at some point by the middle of the coming year. We intend to document the process from start to finish so stay tuned for more!

Next, we are taking preliminary steps into apparel with WOBZAI art! Starting with a Printify Pop Up Shop, we want to begin releasing designs on a regular basis! We currently have 5 designs and a few other varieties available now! We would love to hear any and all feedback as well as requests for new designs!

2023 UPDATE!

Good morning! Following a productive and successful first year, we are excited to continue the growth of WOBZAI with some changes behind the scenes!

STUDIO: We are currently working towards an updated studio space to optimize some of our business goals moving forward.

WEBSITE: We are close to finishing the uploads to have a new site available for ordering art work directly! This will include a variety of size and multiple finish options.

CONTENT: More process oriented content moving forward- time lapse, tools, and technique. We are looking to document more behind the art.

The Soured Patch
11” x 14” Digital, Ink

A dramatic scene between sour and sweet… This idea spawned from a “sour” prompt and the initial sketch evolved to what you see here through some reworking over the past year. The color really adds an added intensity and focus on the subjects that were lacking originally. The background was vastly improved I believe as well, adding more context to the piece.

This design was done in ink traditionally and then transferred to be colored digitally. It took awhile for me to appreciate revisions and actually embrace the idea. A piece of art can take a lot of time and navigating through ideas so dissecting that all over again can feel pretty daunting. Once you actually commit and give yourself an honest critique you can really see where you might be able to improve. I will say though, there is a particular energy from the original that can be hard to replicate in a revision. I like to try and let the revisions find their own energy without feeling married to the source.

Another trip to my childhood, this new card set was inspired by my daughter’s love and my nostalgia for Sesame Street! Her three favorites were a perfect choice to start this numbers set. I would like to continue with this and illustrate some of the other friends in the series. Each character comes with an accompanying element and respective color scheme. I wanted some of my artistic character to come through with these, while still paying respect to their traditional design. The vibrancy and saturation really push these to the next level! It has opened my mind to illustration geared towards kids and ways that I can push that envelope. Stay tuned for the next editions!

I used to be so intimidated to illustrate animals and landscape, but once I finally dove into it, I really grew a fondness to exploring more. There is a great sense of accomplishment tackling the pieces that I may not necessarily know how to approach. There is a sense of autopilot with things you are comfortable with and that doesn’t always lend your mind to learning something new. Now, going back to my portraits, I feel like I have a broader skill set to enhance my figures.

“Pocahontas”
9” x 12” Digital

There are two Disney classics that stand out most in my nostalgia: Pocahontas and The Lion King. I have always enjoyed when artists take a known character and put their own style into the design. I tried to keep her spirit while adding a little more of the grit I enjoy in my work. In all reality the story is fairly intense and I can easily picture a graphic novel in this style geared towards adults. The process here began with pencils and an ink drawing. I then took that to Photoshop to rework some of the ink and then paint color beneath it. Even with digital work, I still naturally approach my work in a traditional mindset. I paint layers upon layers, but with the added benefit to keep them separate and still able to manipulate through the entire process.
