ABOUT US
Shady Pines Chamber Players is entering their 11th season of summer activities in 2023. We celebrate the joy co-founder John Cox (Austin cellist) finds in playing chamber music with others. “It is a delight to share some of this joy with the community of Cloudcroft which has been so welcoming of our musicians through the years” says coordinator Suzannah Cox. Primary activities invol
ve fine musicians from far and wide who come together to enjoy the conversation they can have with one another through all kinds of chamber music. THE GARDEN
Cox’s parents Dr. & Mrs. Wilcox from El Paso purchased the cabin they named “Shady Pines” in 1944. Wilcox loved the garden and planted lilacs (which remain) and annuals every year. Wilcox was no longer able to make the trip, Cox began moving rocks and making pathways and defined beds. Around 2010 Cox was inspired by the small trellis of a neighbor to begin working with sticks and twigs. Each visit after that, she became more and more involved working to define pathways, erect trellises and then to make silly sculptures and wood bird houses. MUSIC AT THE CABIN
Because over the years Shady Pines music activities have had the use of Cloudcroft School facilities for various summer music activities, it was a natural to make the attraction of the garden and the music floating out into it be an enticement for visitors to support the Cloudcroft Schools music programs.
