"For more than six decades, the Kirkland Art Center has fulfilled its mission to educate children and adults, advocate for artists and the arts, and engage the community through live music, exhibitions, dance, and theater," said Anita Welych, KAC executive director. "Food, much like art, connects people in wonderful and delicious ways. This project allows us to expand our vision and transform the KAC into a space that welcomes everyone and celebrates the tremendous diversity of our region."

The Kirkland Art Center has started a fundraising campaign to expand and modernize its community arts and cultural spaces.

Today we are getting our LET'S GET COOKING! capital campaign underway in earnest. Our goal is to reach 1000 donors by December 31st and to raise funds needed to increase accessibility, build new facilities, and bring new programming with a new community/teaching kitchen.

We invite community members, local businesses, and regional supporters to partner with the KAC in our transformative project.
Through your GIFTS big or small, through two or three-year PLEDGES, and through NAMING OPPORTUNITIES we will reach our goal.

Funded in part by a substantial DRI award from New York State, the campaign is focused on securing the additional matching funds needed to support the project. With support from the DRI, community donations, anonymous pledges, and other grants to date, plans are being finalized by Chiang|O’Brien Architects to replace a deteriorated portion of the current building with a brand-new, fully accessible modern addition that will house dedicated studio spaces for pottery, children's arts, and mixed-media arts.
At the heart of the expansion is the state-of-the-art community and teaching kitchen. The commercial-grade facility is designed to serve the community in many ways though the culinary arts through cultural exploration, health education, entrepreneurship, and community connection.
Following on from MV Gives on September 18 and with other donations and small grants to date, this phase of the campaign sets an ambitious target: to build on over 90 MV Gives donors to reach 1,000 donors by December 31 to help bridge the funding gap and bring the vision to completion.

The KAC Presents: An Evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein

September 25th and 26th at 7:30pm
September 27th at 2:00pm
Tickets are $10

An evening of songs and stories spanning the careers of one of the most prolific songwriting duos in Broadway history. Come hear familiar melodies coupled with anecdotes about Richard Rodgers' and Oscar Hammerstein's lives, backstage drama, and information about some of your favorite musicals. Hear snippets from shows like The Sound of Music, Cinderella, South Pacific, and more!

This performance is a fundraiser for the KAC, and proceeds will be used in part to fund future originally produced theatrical productions! Come support us while we grow our program and bring more theater to the KAC!

Our final performer, on the night before our opening, is the KAC's own treasurer! Introducing Nick Abounader.

Nick has been on and off the KAC stage since he was a teenager, starting with performances with HPTY! You may have seen him recently in Next to Normal as Dan or Much Ado About Nothing as Dogberry. He grew up watching the live recorded production of Cinderella, between viewings of The Muppet Cinderella, so he is always ready to sing a Rodgers and Hammerstein piece!

An Evening of Rodgers & Hammerstein is on September 25th, 26th, and 27th, tickets are only $10, and is a fundraiser for the KAC. Help us keep these amazing community programs going!
