Today we honor the life and legacy of Kathy Musick Wood, founder of FLY Dance Company and a true pioneer in arts education.
Kathy dedicated her life to creating opportunities for young people through dance, mentorship, and creative expression. Long before hip-hop was widely accepted in schools, she recognized its power to inspire, educate, and transform lives. Through her vision, thousands of students found confidence, community, and a place to belong.
For many of us, Kathy was more than a teacher or director—she was a mentor who believed in our potential before we saw it ourselves. Her passion, leadership, and commitment to youth continue to live on through the generations of dancers, educators, and artists she helped shape.
The impact of Kathy's work can be seen every day in classrooms, on stages, and in communities across Houston and beyond. Her legacy lives on through FLY Dance Company and the countless lives she touched along the way.
Thank you, Kathy, for believing in us, inspiring us, and showing us how the arts can change lives.
Rest in peace. Your wings will continue to help others fly. ❤️
