It’s honestly hard to believe I’m even saying this, but after nearly 2 years of delays, setbacks, and constant curveballs… the new studio is finally starting to feel real.

In today’s video, I’m giving a full update on where things stand, some of the challenges we’ve run into along the way, and why this process ended up being wayyy harder than I ever expected.

Garage door problems, epoxy floor issues, window headaches… every time I think we’re in the clear, something else seems to pop up 😂

But we’re genuinely getting close now, and I wanted to bring you along for the ride right before I wrap this up and dive into my first project in the new studio.

You can watch the new video by clicking the link below.

Most drum mixing advice overcomplicates everything for no reason.

In this video, I’m breaking down 3 simple techniques that make a real difference, without stacking endless plugins or over-processing your tracks.

We’ll cover:

Why your overheads should act more like cymbal mics

How to get natural, controlled drums without relying on gates

Where your “glue” should actually come from

If your drum mixes feel amateur or just not quite right… You’re probably doing too much.

If you’ve spent hours worrying about gain staging… acoustic treatment… or upgrading your gear, but your mixes STILL aren’t improving…

There’s a good chance you’re focusing on the wrong things.

I just put out a new video breaking down the stuff home studio musicians obsess over that feels important, but usually doesn’t move the needle.

This isn’t about saying those things don’t matter.

It’s about understanding what actually makes a difference (and what just wastes your time).

I don't want you wasting years of your life (like I did) on things that are completely overblown all over the internet.

That said, you can check out the new video below. Link in comments.

Most people think recording real drums at home is complicated and expensive…

You need a perfect room, expensive mics, great preamps, etc.

That’s what I used to think too.

But after doing this for years (in basements, garages, and less-than-ideal spaces), I’ve realized it’s actually wayyy simpler than people make it out to be.

It's also a helluva lot cheaper than most people think.

I just uploaded a new video explaining 2 simple rules that make drum recording at home exponentially EASIER.

The crazy thing is that I rarely hear people talking about these 2 things on the internet, but they completely changed my drum productions for the better.

If you’ve ever felt like recording real drums was out of reach, this new video will change your perspective.

If your recordings never sound quite right...even after mixing...

It’s probably NOT your plugins or your gear.

In this video, I walk through 7 common home recording mistakes that quietly ruin your sound before the mix even starts.

These are the same issues I see over and over again when reviewing tracks, and fixing them can make a bigger difference than anything you do later in the process.

I went back and listened to some of my old mixes recently.

And honestly, they all had the same problems...

Not plugin choice issues...
Not gear limitations...

Just a few simple things I was overlooking (and that you might be too).

The wild part?

I still hear these exact same issues in home studio mixes all the time...even though it's 20 years later and plugins and DAW's have only gotten exponentially BETTER.

So I put together a video breaking them down with real examples:

Watch it (link in comments).

If your mixes feel amateur, crowded, or just not quite right…

This will help you pinpoint why.

Most people think muddy mixes are caused by bad EQ, cheap plugins, or not having the right gear.

But in reality, muddy mixes usually come from much simpler problems that get overlooked.

In this video, I break down the real reasons most home studio mixes sound muddy...including arrangement issues, poor source sounds, high-pass filter mistakes, level balance, and lack of automation.

If you’ve ever struggled to get your mixes to sound clear and controlled, this will help.

As you might know, I’ve been building a home studio from scratch over the last year.

Right now it’s mostly drywall and a whole lotta construction dust… but something interesting happened while working on it.

The deeper I got into the build, the more I realized something about home recording that almost nobody talks about.

And honestly, it’s the same thing I see all the time with mixing.

People make it way more complicated than it needs to be.

When I first started researching soundproofing and studio construction, I fell straight into the same trap everyone else does:

• endless products
• miracle solutions
• YouTube videos that make everything sound insanely technical

But when I finally started working with a real studio designer, the entire problem became so much simpler.

There are really only a few things that actually matter.

And the funny part is… the exact same principle applies to recording and mixing!

I made a video about the whole process, including a quick tour of the unfinished studio and the realization it led to.

You can watch it here.

If you’ve ever felt like home recording gets unnecessarily complicated, this one might resonate.

Most people think mixing feels hard because they don’t understand EQ well enough.

In reality, the problem is often the opposite: doing too much EQ before actually listening to the source.

In this video, I break down the EQ mistake that quietly makes mixing harder than it needs to be.

I walk through three real-world examples inside the DAW:

• EQ’ing amp sims
• EQ’ing EZ Drummer tracks
• EQ’ing home-recorded vocals

In each example, you’ll hear how unnecessary EQ moves can actually create more problems and make mixing feel more complicated.

The goal of this video isn’t to give you more EQ tricks...it’s to help you make better decisions with fewer moves.

If mixing has ever felt more complicated than it should, this will likely explain why.

If recording your music at home still feels hard, even when you kinda know what you’re doing...

You’re not alone.

In this video, I explain why so many intermediate home producers feel stuck, frustrated, or overwhelmed after learning the basics...

And why the problem is almost NEVER a lack of talent or gear.

In the video, I talk about:

- How home studio freedom is both a blessing AND a curse

- Why working without structure creates constant friction

- Why knowledge alone doesn’t create progress

- This video isn’t about plugins or techniques.

It’s about clarity, structure, and understanding why this stage feels so difficult for so many of us...and why it’s actually normal.
