Praxis Fiber Workshop Praxis is a community textile workshop offering a gallery, classes and studio space to all interested in fiber arts.

Located in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District, we provide resources for artists at all levels to learn, create, and connect. The mission of Praxis is to revitalize the field of Fiber art in the Cleveland area by giving local artists and community members access to fiber related equipment, classes and studio space. Praxis is dedicated to increasing awareness and expanding the field of contemporary

fiber art by creating an environment of experimentation, exhibition and communication locally and within the broader art community.

Please join us tomorrow, September 9th, at Praxis Fiber Workshop for the opening reception of M. Carmen Lane’s ‘Topsy Turvy or Your Story Began Before You Were Born (and a note on Beirut)’.

Following their 2020 exhibition AMALA: She Could Not Stay (In Their Black Bodies), M. Carmen Lane returns to Praxis with new work that explores birth, place, migration, memory, and the ways history continues to live within our bodies. Through digital weaving, photography, assemblage, and letterpress printmaking, the exhibition weaves together personal narrative, Black maternal health, and collective memory, while reflecting on the artist’s recent work in Beirut.

This exhibition reminds us that textiles are more than material, they can carry stories, witness history, and hold space for healing.

Topsy Turvy or Your Story Began Before You Were Born (and a note on Beirut)

Following their 2020 exhibition AMALA: She Could Not Stay (In Their Black Bodies), M. Our team has been hard at work preparing for the grand opening of Crop to Cloth, our new retail space opening on September 4th here at Praxis! ✨

We are upcycling sustainably-sourced clothing using a variety of natural dyes, as well as some unique dyeing techniques like shibori. Here is a sneak peek at what we’ve been working on! 😁
