Joe Lovano is visiting the June 16th Horizon Trio and Outlab: Experiments in Improvised Music session and meeting with student recipients of The Tony "Big T" Lovano Cleveland Jazz Legacy Scholarship, an endowed fund Lovano established in memory of his father to support merit-based scholarships for students in the “J@MS” (Jazz at The Music Settlement) program. J@MS trains young musicians in theory, history, and musicianship while giving them the opportunity to perform in dynamic big bands and small combos at Cleveland’s 113-year old nonprofit music school. Through its Center for Music, The Music Settlement provides accessible, life-enhancing music and arts experiences to people of all ages and abilities. Lovano’s endowment helps expand this mission and support students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate.
