When you bring games to the average person as opposed to fussy tournament players , it's so interesting to learn things I never would have thought about .
Even when I'm using tournament Street Fighter sticks on my cabinets, I had a person remark their wife was struggling with Pac-Man .
To be honest my first thought is well if you haven't played pac-Man on a real cabinet since the eighties , you might be misremembering how good you are !
But I put my pride on the shelf and thought about it .
They didn't have the vocabulary or knowledge to tell me what the problem was but I figured it out!
There were no diagonals in games that old, so the sticks just needed to move in four directions .
All modern sticks moving eight directions. And then Pac-Man depending on the version it can be more difficult playing on a normal joystick versus a four-way .
All my years in using these tournament standard Japanese sticks and I never knew you could make them four-way sticks with about a 5 Second adjustment
So I'm installing new Japanese sticks on my main Pac-Man and Galaga machine .
There's a lot with nostalgia where you just accept it if it's all correct, but if something is slightly off, you can't say why but something just bothers you .
I really enjoy doing this kind of stuff too i really enjoy doing this kind of stuff too really make people happy and return to a special time in their life, if only for a few minutes at a time !
