Most of my friends know that I have Hosted a karaoke show for a little over 30 years now and I have several friends that I have met through the years that also host there own show Jonny Wayne with Pulse Karaoke , Clinton Ball and Nancy Jones with Whiskey Karaoke , Jack Rainwater , Ron Ryan.... I have seen many things during a karaoke show that should be considered as you never do this so here are a few key Karaoke rules of engagement and just good manors that should be considered when doing karaoke at any venue.
Rule #1 Our equipment is very expensive and are not toys the ever famous Mic Drop is never okay in fact if you do this at my show you will be removed from the rotation FACT!!!
Rule #2 You should never walk up behind or beside someone singing and start singing along with them or grab another mic to sing with them unless they have asked you to sing with them first.
Rule # 3 You should never sing a song that someone else just got through singing even if you think you can do a better job in fact some of the Veteran KJ's won't even allow you to sign that song up.
Rule #4 Most of us that have been doing this awhile have most of the same song choices but some may be a slightly different version remember we don't write them or control how the words are displayed we only play them for you so don't get upset with your KJ because it don't sound the same as the last time you sang it, We are here to help you entertain yourself to the best of our abilities.
Rule #5 We are paid a set amount of money to do a show during a specific time period, We don't always have control over being aloud to play over to finish a rotaion or not the venue has control over that, In the event that we are able to play later to accomidate a large crowd remember most of us have Tip Jars and trust me a little appreciation from our guest goes along way and we greatly appreciate it.
Rule #6 Last but not least Karaoke is for fun although we all have many singers that should be considered as professionals it is simply for fun and somewhere anyone can sing good or bad, Applause goes along way always cheer on the other singers and I will add to this one. The Venues we play at do pay for karaoke so if you enjoy the karaoke at wherever you are going spend a little money at said venue and always tip your waitress and or Bartender if you don't support the venue by spending money they will not be able to continue providing that entertainment for you.
