The Production Cleveland Audiences Are Talking About
This weekend marks the final performances of La Malasangre by acclaimed Argentine playwright Griselda Gambaro at LatinUs Theater.
Set in a world ruled by fear, manipulation, and abuse of power, La Malasangre explores themes that remain strikingly relevant today. Written as a response to political violence and authoritarianism, the play continues to challenge audiences to reflect on the consequences of silence, complicity, and injustice.
What the Critics Are Saying:
“In short, if this family moved in next door you would be finding yourself moving quickly simply to avoid being near them.
It takes exceptional actors to convince you how mean they are, and this cast excels in every way. This is a feel-good show in the aspect that it will make you feel good about your family, no matter how messed up they are.”

What Audiences Are Saying:
Language stretches us and helps us see the world from another cultural perspective.
Art tells us the truth in ways we can’t always access directly.
So yes, this is my Sunday celebration post.
Not because the play was joyful.
Because it was brave.
Because Cleveland has spaces where Latino stories are being told.
Because some stories are not meant to entertain us.
They are meant to wake us up.

Some plays entertain you for a few hours. This one sits in your chest afterward.
From the moment you walk in, you can feel the tension, the fear, and the emotional weight pouring off the stage. What hit me the hardest was how human it all felt. You could see the desperation in the characters’ eyes. The moments of silence felt just as powerful as the dialogue. At times, the room felt almost uncomfortable… because deep down, many of the themes still exist today.

More Than a Play—An Experience
With unforgettable performances, stunning visuals, and a story that resonates long after the curtain falls, La Malasangre offers the kind of live theatrical experience that cannot be replicated on a screen.
This is a theater that sparks conversation, challenges assumptions, and reminds us why the arts matter.
