Tongue Tied
“Vrrrrm vrrrrm”
Sonics phone buzzed repeatedly as she stood hunched in disbelief; Cassius's previous messages ringing in her mind over and over.
“With this person everything seems natural…like my happiness…what should I do? With them I feel complete…❤️”
Her device kept going. Calling for her to answer. Impatiently waiting to rip her heart apart. Blue eyes darted in disbelief, all this time her feelings of longing weren’t mutual, meaning she was just a fool, leaving her ashamed and embarrassed. Jealous that someone else reached his heart. A bittersweet happiness swallowing her soul. She wanted him to be happy, but she wanted him happy with her.
She; dismissing the cost of her own feelings, proceeded to explain what she’d do in such a situation.
Of course he left scrambled messages, knowing he had unwillingly hurt her. Frantically apologizing, saying he’d drop it, But she insisted they continue, as him being happy was more important to her than anything.
Wiping away tears fingers slowly tapped, reminiscing the hopes she had between them one day.
“What I would do is…I’d…”
Her thoughts flooded as fast as she’d run, turning to static then returning. Rolling and crashing like waves.
“Id coordinate something. Maybe make something special. Make dinner plans. Something to catch them off guard. Something romantic.”
She could sense his bright smile though her screen; crushing her more causing puffy eyes to welt again. "I have to stop crying..." Sonic scolded herself. "They will be back...and I'm not ruining this for him."
Right on time they returned sensing her pain, feeling her heartache. Sonic had a tendancey of bottling things away but her eyes always reflected inner feelings. Cassius couldn’t help but hug her tightly—his touch so gentle, growing hesitant to let go.
She remained silent; knowing any words she’d attempt to speak would become broken and babbled. Frustrated she left for the night sleeping at her brother’s, Leaving Cass and Jack alone.
“This is killing me~” Cass muttered, feeling his fangs slowly protrude. A normal anxiety response from the vampire.
“I know…” Jack smiled placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. “But you know what you’re doing. I’m proud of you.”
The next few days followed with awkward silence and many, many phone calls.
Sonic waited upstairs to hear their living room door routinely click shut; as Cassius had now revealed his true identity to the world, he was able to finally take charge of the business he'd built, and therefore needed to be there for many important meetings and discussions. All of which started early.
Hearing her signal she crawled from bed. Wincing from cold floor boards. Her mind a fog, eyes heavy and puffy.
Opening her door she was startled from something soft underneath her feet. Eyes glanced in confusion studying the beautifully adorned box. A handwritten note lay on top.
“I know the last few days have been tough. So I’d like to make it up to you. Take these items and shine like the star you are~ I’ll see you at 7.”
Her heart swarmed of stinging bees, feeling confused and hesitant. Tired eyes spotted a special place for her to sign and upon doing so said signature glowed dissolving said letter within flashes of light.
It had been a paper cast of magic. once signed it's addressee received the letter no matter their location.
To pass time she boiled tea and spruced up the house, trying everything to keep herself busy and sane. Eventually, watching clock hands tick down convinced her a long hot shower Would do some good.
As she finished and left the washroom eyes caught sight of her 'gift'. thoughts ranging from something beautiful to something disastrous, as her heart wondered if she really knew the man that he was. She tried refusing the boxes contents--her heart saying no but time urged her to move quickly. night was rapidly approaching.
Gloved fingers twirled the gifts lacing, studying it’s beauty once more, carefully undoing it’s bow to remove the lid.
Sonics mind grew more confused; expression dropping of pure shock and awe as she scooped each item out one by one. A beautiful dress, shoes, accessories. Everything custom made to fit her perfectly.
“I don’t understand.”
Eyes glanced to the clock realizing her time was running out.
“Here goes nothing.”
It wasn’t long till light taps broke the homes silence. She answered the gesture, swinging open her bedroom door to find Jack waiting patiently.
“Wheres Cass?” she asked softly.
“hes waiting for you, he wanted me to es**rt you.”
“Escort me? Why?”
The demon shook his head, lightly grabbing her to lead her out.
Downtrail sat a shiny limo, it’s cobalt coat glistened in the evening sunset—its driver hidden as most drivers were.
Before her mind could question the situation, Jack had seated both hsu guest and himself and Like a child she flipped switches gawking at the vehicles interior, fancy strobing lights and soft velvet seats.
After a short ride they had arrived to someplace she had never visited before—a luxurious restaurant. Home of fine dining, live music and fantastic dishes. Waiters and waitresses silently moved from place to place pouring wine to their guests Who enjoyed their meal on the enclosed patio.
Trees and flowers adorned it’s stone walkways. Stringed lights weaved through branches leading inside.
Sonics thoughts were interrupted by her door being opened.
There stood Cassius wearing a soft grin suggesting for her to take his hand. He was dressed handsomely, completely matching what she wore, and considering everyone seemed to be dressed in a dark fashion, they instantly stood out. All Eyes watched the two as they entered.
“Where were you?” she whispered feeling nervous.
“what do you mean.” he chuckled.
“I drove you here~”
“you!?” Eyes grew wide.
With an arm wrapped around his guest he used his free hand to signal they had arrived.
An unrehearsed waiter quickly stepped forward, adorning a full suit, Hair combed sleek holding a tray of liquor.
“My apologizes. Welcome to Dragon and Eel. Please take a seat—”
The man signaled to a round open area where a large oak table sat prepared, utensils set, candles lit, menus ready and of course a full beachside view; it’s water basking in the firey colors of sunset.
Cassius first handed the gentleman a paper then guided her along passed many crowds—all turning to look .
Some smiled, others nodded. Groups of women huddled together chatting about the two as Sonic was new to this area. Yes they’ve seen her on tv or teaming alongside her brother to stop eggman but only Cassius was well known in this establishment.
He seated her then followed, leaning close, eyes lidded enjoying what he saw. Never once did his smile fade, and even now her hand remained loosely in his.
“What is all of this?”
His eyes scanned the room trying to remain calm, collecting thoughts eventually locking onto her again.
“I followed your advice…”
His grip slightly tightened watching her face go ajar with realization. Everything clicked at once.
“You—you sneaky bastard--!” she broke into teary laughter hitting him on the chest. “I learned from the best!” giggling in sync they leaned closer. “in all seriousness…I wanted to know what you really wanted. I knew whatever you’d suggest would lead me to know what to do—”
“But you didn’t have to do all of this!” she emphasised with an outstretched hand. “I know.”
He could feel love induced butterflies swarm, everything growing hot. Every beat of her heart pulsed between his fingers. Fast but soothing.
“I wanted to give you the best because you deserve it.”
Reaching behind he uncovered a small red boX, His heart soaring as her eyes sparkled.
Inside the box was the ring she had found earlier this year. Polished, sparkling, beautiful.
“when you had found this I had to lie…because…this was actually for you. That’s why it fits perfectly! It took a while for me to make it, I wanted it perfect for you.”
She was lost for words, slowly slipping it on wiggling a few fingers to see its single gemstone shimmer.
Without warning she leaped into his arms; holding him as tight as she possibly could, he returned squeezes loving her closeness.
She grabbed his face swiftly locking lips completely stopping time for Cassius. His eyes went wide, almost passing out; all the blood rushing to his head. warm stinging sensations flooded every nerve possible. He couldn't move, unable to recuperate.Thoughts went wild, spinning, as he never thought things would go like this. He expected rejection or maybe even anger. For days he had been twisted with fear almost backing down seeing her so upset.
Separating faster than his body could react, she scratched his ear brining him back to reality. Struggling to breathe he shifted back to catch some air; his body still limp.
“I-I love y-you too!!”
