In 1952, Gladys Knight & the Pips formed in Atlanta, Georgia later becoming one of the most iconic R&B groups of the Motown era🎶

Though only briefly signed to Motown Records, their sound helped define classic soul music. And when they took the stage at Leo’s Casino in Cleveland for a three-night run, it mattered.

Leo’s Casino was known for launching Motown artists into stardom and that weekend, Gladys Knight & the Pips brought their Southern soul to the Midwest for a night of suits, ties, and pearls‼️

This week, we’re spotlighting legendary artists who performed at Leo’s Casino and how their music lives on through today’s biggest voices🎶

First up: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell’s classic “Your Precious Love.” The timeless duet was later sampled by Fantasia on “Collard Greens & Cornbread” from her third studio album, Back to Me.

The ballad keeps Fantasia’s soulful flair while honoring the original Motown melody that once graced the Leo’s stage.

In November 1967, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell lit up the stage for three unforgettable nights, performing hits from their duet album United including “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Your Precious Love.”

Though many of their classics were studio recordings, Leo’s gave fans the rare chance to witness Motown magic live up close and unforgettable‼️

Did you know Cleveland is mentioned three times in The Temptations (1998)?

While it’s not confirmed that the group was headed to Leo’s Casino in the film, Leo’s was a vital Cleveland stage that welcomed many Motown artists—including The Temptations—throughout its run.

Cleveland has long been the connector, and Leo’s Casino the incubator, for Motown’s sound and legacy. 🎶

Leo’s Casino proudly spotlights Eric “EŽ the Coldest” Floyd a Cleveland, Ohio–based singer, songwriter, and all-around creative force. From smooth vocals to poetic songwriting, EŽ bends the rules and creates entirely on his own terms!

“Artists don’t follow rules! That’s rule number one.”

Beyond his own artistry, Eric Floyd Jr. is the founder of WEAREFREEDOM , a nonprofit dedicated to providing independent artists with creative outlets and intentional artist development. He isn’t just building for himself — he’s creating space for others.

That spirit of selflessness is exactly what the Leo’s Casino Spotlight Series exists to honor: shining a light on the artists shaping Cleveland’s creative landscape.
