One of the pleasures of being a music promoter is discovering new talent. Over the past 36 years, I have had the pleasure of introducing to Cleveland audiences several emerging talents who are now major stars on the Jazz and Popular music circuits. They include Diana Krall, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Lizz Wright, Cyrille Aimée, Bria Skonberg, and DiegoFigueiredo among several others.

Recently I have discovered another very special talent. She is Mar Vileseca. Mar is a native of Barcelona, Spain currently living in New York City. She is a recent Masters Graduate from the Juilliard School of Music. In addition she was the winner of the UNISA Music Foundation International Jazz Vocal Competition held in Pretoria, South Africa. This was an extensive competition held over two weeks in February of 2026. Mar was competing against vocalists worldwide and she went through several rounds of preliminary competition before emerging as the winner of the final round.

Besides being a superb vocalist, Mar also plays piano and guitar. She is the daughter of a well known jazz musician in Barcelona, pianist Jaume Vilaseca. The music is in her blood and that is immediately evident once she takes the stage. She is also going viral on You Tube. A video she made along with pianist Emmett Cohen recently already has 808K views and counting.

Joining Mar will be pianist Kenny Banks Jr.. Kenny lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a native of Columbus, Ohio. Also a second generation musician in his family, Kenny can be seen on tour in support of current jazz stars including vocalist Lizz Wright, and vibraphonist Stefon Harris.

The always popular Brazilian musician, Moises Borges will open the show both nights. Don't miss rising star vocalist Mar Vilaseca at Irishtown Bend Taproom Friday, and Saturday, May 1stand 2nd!

Vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Mar Vilaseca was born in 1998, in Barcelona, Spain. Mar grew up in a musical environment and learned how to play and sing at a very young age, being exposed to a wide variety of music. She was classically trained in piano and traditional harmony at the Conservatorio del Liceo. At the age of 14, she started singing professionally in her father’s jazz band.
Mar finished her classical studies in 2016, and then decided to focus her career on vocal jazz. She was accepted at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya, where she got her undergraduate degree in Jazz Voice. During those college years, Mar then took her first of many trips to New York City. The diversity of culture and music captivated her, and soon she moved to New York. In 2020, she also released her first album entitled Find the Way, which presents all original compositions.
Mar got her Masters in Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School, and studied with Wynton Marsalis, Carla Cook, Elio Villafranca, Kenny Washington, and Donald Vega. She graduated in 2022 with the Juilliard Career Advancement Fellowship Award.
Mar has collaborated with numerous artists from different parts of the world, including Emmet Cohen, Elio Villafranca, Benny Benack III, and more. She has performed at various international music festivals such as Barcelona Jazz Festival, Festival de Jazz de San Javier (Spain), Guangzhou Jazz Festival (China), and Festival de Jazz de Bogota (Colombia).
