2023 started out challenging but it turned out to be a beautiful year. Thank you to everyone who has in one way or another supported my work lately. I’m so appreciative. Feeling more clear about what I’d like to accomplish than ever before and hoping to focus on what is really close to my heart in 2024. Looking forward to this garden season already 🧡

Pokeweed (phytolacca americana) evolved in North America and is naturalized around the temperate world. They grow in the forest under-story and you may see one popping up in the garden since birds tend to spread their seeds.

Pokeberries contain the pigment betalain, giving them this color; but this color is sensitive to light and oxygen, meaning it often doesn’t last long.

When I tried to make a pokeberry lake it faded to an almost white-pink shade, so I made this illustration for my zine with fresh poke ink 💗💗

Final project from my stay with the deep ecology fellowship at United Plant Savers. a zine that contains descriptions of plants I gathered and used to make watercolor paints, with illustrations painted in their respective colors.

experimenting with another way forward, making art materials by collaborating with plants rather the extractive methods which involve color made from fossils fuels. also, noting indigenous plant names on these pages to bring attention to their history and various ways of understanding plant value. small number of these are headed to ups 🌿🌿🌿

Watercolor paints have a place in my heart as a medium I was obsessed with when I was younger, and creating them with natural dyes has clicked for me more than I expected. The physicality of grinding and mulling is very meditative.

The second photo is a drawing l made of swamp mallow in between dye sessions at UpS. It was special to find this plant (already in the seed cycle of its lifespan) at the sanctuary after I planted hibiscus myself this year ❤️‍🔥 Also, finished the piece with paint made from goldenrod & black walnut.

Goldenrod & indigo moon bandana available in my web shop 🌛Photo for scale as this one is larger than the other moon bandanas.

Made with smooth, tightly woven organic cotton that stretches a bit and is very breathable, great for a light fall weather scarf. Also could be used as a small table cloth or an altar cloth 🕯️🌛Might be listing other variations of these I’ve made if there’s interest, let me know 💌
