Sankofa Sol Arts Inquiry Collective We're a multidisciplinary collective, uplifting the narratives of Black & Brown communities.

Our team is comprised of a talented group of researchers and practitioners hailing from a wide array of fields. With our expertise in Child and Family Studies, Education, Anthropology/Sociology, Africana Studies, Ethnic Studies, Theater, Performing, and Literary Arts, we bring a unique and powerful perspective to our performances.

Courtney L. Black is a Cleveland-born poetess, ecologist and international multidisciplinary artist. Her background in Cultural Anthropology & Sociology, Theater, and Media fuels her passion for connecting people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

The American Folklore Society, Association for Art History, Assembly for the Arts, Columbia Law School, Fernland Studios, GrubStreet’s Boston Writers of Color, and the National Social Science Association have all supported her creative ventures. A Hoodoo and self-described transcendentalist, Ms. Black proactively uses her pen and body as agents for social change and true community renewal.

Her ongoing work includes readings from her poetry collection ANIMALIA (2020) and her work as Artistic Director of Sankofa Sol Arts Inquiry Collective (SSAIC) and the award-winning project, The Nanny Project alongside other interdisciplinary projects. She is also the Founder of Le Chat Noir Productions. You Can’t Overlove Anything is Le Chat Noir’s first live theatrical creation.

Ms. Black divides her time between her hometown of Cleveland (where she is the Artistic Director of Lillie B’s House) and wherever her spirit leads her.

Cleanita is a nursing professional at Tri-C (Metro Campus) and a summer intern at Lillie B’s House. She is immersed in the healing arts. With an emphasis on natural healthcare, specifically herbal work, she is devoted to providing intentional care to her community that is rooted in ancestral wisdom.

Ms. Coleman has greatly contributed to the success of the A Wonderland Learning Center by providing administrative support, including social media campaigns and graphic design. Ms. Coleman’s work on Sankofa Sol’s You Can’t Overlove Anything is her first theatrical media venture.

As a spiritual woman, Cleanita feels deeply connected to the LB’s mission and looks forward to future contributions to the house. Current endeavors include private philanthropic efforts, continued devotion to environmental awareness, and public-facing roles.
