Mission Statement – Art Spot

Art Spot, a Cleveland Institute of Art student exhibition space, brings CIA student artists together with the greater Cleveland community. As an off-campus venue designed to promote cultural dialogue to a broader audience, Art Spot develops a range of skills for students relative to organizing, installing, and promoting exhibitions. Ultimately, Art Spot creates meaningful exchanges by linking Cleveland Institute of Art students with opportunities for growth in the visual arts. The venue cycles quarterly exhibits along with periodic craft department sales and is the result of a collaborative partnership between the Cleveland Institute of Art and The Wine Spot.

John Green is making the case that art isn’t a luxury.

Speaking during a Book of the Month Live event, the author reflected on art as something fundamental to being human, arguing that we created it long before we had the luxury of doing so. For Green, art is also inseparable from love — a way for people to share their attention, connect with one another, and survive together.

“Art is essential to the human experience,” Green said. “It can be one of the pillars that holds up that love.”
