Legend has it that when Neil Armstrong took those famous steps onto the moon, they played Dvorak’s New World Symphony, composed in 1893. The theme of the third movement was adapted in "Going Home," a 1922 folk song with lyrics by Dvorak's pupil William Arms Fisher, and recorded by Paul Robeson at Carnegie Hall in 1958.

Remember the amazing vocalist we had at our Christmas concert?

That's Annamarie Sorrento and she'll be back to sing us some Irish tunes at our concert this Saturday, March 25 at Countryside High School. You don't want to miss this!

Here's a link to the video of her performance at the Christmas concert:

Mezzo-soprano Annamarie Sorrento discovered her love of music at a very young age, starting with piano lessons at four years old and very soon thereafter began voice lessons. With the encouragement and support of a family full of musicians as well as teachers, mentors, and peers, she earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. While in college, Annamarie began her professional career singing a wide variety of styles and genres with a number of ensembles including the Philadelphia Opera Company and Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia. She also spent five summers singing for composer Gian Carlo Menotti at his Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy. Her favorite roles include the goddess Juno in Handel’s Semele, Amahl’s Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, and of course the title character in Bizet’s Carmen. Now with the encouragement and support of her percussionist husband, Dan Wierzbicki, Annamarie has joined CCB’s percussion section beginning yet another part of her musical journey…hitting things with sticks.
