In honor of President John Adams the community of Clear Spring is celebrating the founding of the United States of America on July 2nd.
Two hundred fifty years ago on July 2, 1776 -- the day the Second Continental Congress officially voted to approve the resolution of independence and John Adams believed that to be the true birth date of the new nation.
In a letter written to his wife on July 3, 1776, Adams predicted that the momentous event would be commemorated by future generations as the "great anniversary festival."
The declaration was formally adopted on July 4, 1776 and that is the date our nation went with.
For President Adams, this year the citizens of Clear Spring will be celebrating on July 2nd.
The activities start at 6 PM in front of Clear Spring High School. Music by the Stoney Creek Bluegrass Band. Lots of food vendors. FIREWORKS. Bring a lawn chair!
