For those that do not know me as an artist or creator, I have updated my artist statement to reflect my feelings on the subject and thought that I might share this;
Artist Statement
People often ask why I write for children and create art.
The answer seems simple, but the deeper truth lies within my purpose.
I write children's books to entertain and teach, helping children grow into kind, loving adults. My aim is to preserve tradition, foster appreciation, and, above all, inspire laughter—the true joy of childhood.
As for my work as an artist, I aim to convey my love for nature and the goodness that each day brings. My art is a direct reflection of this understanding. In my commissions, I create special drawings to bring joy and remembrance to my clients loved ones, or happiness in everything I create for them. I create wonder in my illustrations for pages in my books, but I also create paintings and artwork to bring nature into beautiful, vivid reality.
It is my wish and dream to be the best I can be as an artist, and to teach art as an inspiration to others. My purpose is to create and bring peace, calm, and joy to as many people as I can. Mother Nature is such a wonder and a blessing. It is as if I am one with nature when I create. I feel God's love for the world and all the beautiful things he has created for all of us. There is no end to the work I would like to create with the inspiration I see all around us.
So, I have no crazy ways of explaining myself, or the reasons I paint and create. I don't create art to make your stomach turn or do something to twist your mind beyond reality. I have no fancy presentation. “I am me. I am real. And I am the artist of the natural and the writer for the sake of our children and their future.” May they all live beautiful, prosperous lives and love unconditionally.
In the words of Vincent van Gogh,” I feel there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”
