Bee Balm Handiwork

Bee Balm Handiwork Our shop is a multi-multigenerational expression of what each of us, at any age, can create through

I was always interested in creating, building, making, starting out with a little electric wheel that my parents gave me for Christmas at 9 years old. Oven bake clay, light brite, sand dripping - I worked with it all. I stepped up to photography and "real clay" in high school, and invested in black and white film developing which I did in an old closet in my parents basement. I was an art major in

college for about a semester (again hand thrown clay) before allowing computer science and soccer to dominate. My art took a back seat for the next 15 years, as I focused on a computer science career and raised 3 little soccer players! Art found its way back into my life as my husband found a 2nd hand wheel and kiln online and then set me up in my own clay room in the basement. My girls joined me and we spent many a fun day doing small sculptures and painting bisque. As the older two went off to college, I found more time to get the wheel going, and was gifted with an upgraded wheel and kiln for my birthday. Fast forward to now where my youngest daughter convinced me we needed to set up a shop on etsy and sell our wares. You will find hand thrown bowls, plates, cups, hand built platters, animals and maybe even a mythical creature or two. I recently started getting serious about warm glass finishing and even glass blowing, so who knows what else you might find! The raw materials we have, combined with our vision, hands and tools create a wealth of functional and decorative pieces of art. We hope you enjoy seeing and perhaps owning our work as much as we enjoy creating! Wishing you all the best,

- Theresa & Brea, with support from the rest off the family

First day of tortoise class in the books. We got together and made the shells yesterday. So great to see what each of the other artists created. We were working hard to create the topography of a tortoise shell - as they grow, the old shell pieces get pushed up to make the distinctive design. Makes a wonderful canvas for all sorts of glazing options!

2nd day tomorrow - we'll get to work on the rest of the body. I'll post again after that with everyone's tortoises!
