St. Louis Church Concert Series Bringing quality musical programming to the Clarksville and Howard County communities, and beyond, with a mission to Enliven, Educate, and Entertain. The St.

Louis Church Concert Series is an outgrowth of the vibrant music ministry at St. Louis Church, led by Artistic Director Colleen Daly Eberhardt. We seek to present first-rate musical experiences for audiences within and beyond the St. Louis congregation. Equally important, we aim to offer a range of performance and learning opportunities for parish musicians and to showcase their talents as they bring freshness to the works they are performing, while working alongside professional musicians. Season after season, the concert series renews its pledge to ENLIVEN, EDUCATE, and ENTERTAIN, the three-pronged commitment for the concert series at large and guiding principles for each program. Visit https://www.stlconcertseries.org/ for more information about our history and program offerings and to support our work. Plan to join us soon.

✨Tonight✨ We’re opening our 21st season by going back several centuries.

Ancient Airs and Dance features the trio Gut, Wind, and Wire taking audiences on a musical journey into the past, pairing a new season with melodies and traditions that have endured for hundreds of years.
The program moves from Renaissance dance music and tunes associated with Shakespeare’s plays to Scottish Baroque music, traditional Irish sets, and contemporary works.

The concert’s title nods to Ottorino Respighi’s early 20th-century orchestral suites Ancient Airs and Dances, which were inspired by music of the Italian Renaissance. Gut, Wind, and Wire returns to some of the original melodies that fascinated Respighi, while also exploring music from John Playford’s English Dancing Master and Renaissance dance collections dating as far back as 1508.

Old tunes. Centuries-old traditions. A brand-new season. Please join us in the chapel on October 2 for this memorable evening. Details and tickets: https://www.stlconcertseries.org/2026-october-2

Meet Gut, Wind, and Wire’s resident lute player!

Ronn McFarlane has released over forty CDs on Dorian and Sono Luminus, including lute solo collections, lute songs, lute duets, music for flute & lute, viola da gamba & lute, the complete lute music of Vivaldi, and Baltimore Consort albums. In the tradition of the lutenist/composers of past centuries, Ronn has composed new music for the lute. These original compositions are the focus of his solo CD, Indigo Road, which received a Grammy Award Nomination. Other CD releases, One Morning and Barley Moon, feature “Ayreheart,” an ensemble brought together to perform Ronn’s original music. Ronn’s most recent solo album, The Celtic Lute, features his arrangements of traditional Scottish and Irish music from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Tomorrow we’re introducing the third member of the four-decade trio, and you can hear them live on Friday by purchasing tickets: https://www.stlconcertseries.org/2026-october-2

Gut, Wind, and Wire is named for the natural elements that bring our instruments to life: gut strings, wire strings, and wind (breath). Meet the members of the trio: Mark Cudek, Ronn McFarlane, and Mindy Rosenfeld, and don’t miss their performance at our Concert by Candlelight this Friday!

Mark Cudek (bass viol, cittern, percussion) is the former Chair of the Historical Performance Department at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, Artistic Director of the Indianapolis Early Music Festival, and a founding member of the Baltimore Consort. He has toured and recorded with Apollo’s Fire and Hesperus, and regularly performs with the Folger Consort. In his youth, Mark worked as a café guitarist in the Virgin Islands.
