Finally: 340 tiles hung, grouted and all cleaned up. Still need to re-install the sills and outlet covers...

Approximately 1/3 of the tiles have been installed. Lighting changes the color tone quite a bit.

Half the tiles for this project were sitting in my kiln waiting to be fired the day of my son’s accident.

I had a class that evening (October 8, 2024) and a firing schedule planned so I could install this backsplash before Thanksgiving.

The schedule disappeared that day. The tiles waited.

Today, 17 months later, I placed the first one on the wall. It felt strangely emotional and vulnerable, like finding my way back to an intimate moment that had been interrupted mid-sentence.

Marcus Aurelius wrote about returning to oneself after being thrown out of rhythm.

This has been my path since the accident.
Returning to myself, one piece at a time.
Returning to this project, tile by tile.

(And my son is recovering, beautifully.)

Many of you know my studio has been and remains closed. This is because my youngest son was in a serious accident exactly six months ago. He still has many therapies, an upcoming surgery, and a traumatic brain injury, but he is making an excellent recovery.

The Crooked Pot is still closed at this time, but select pieces are on display and for sale at Back to Basics Wellness Market in Fenton.

The photo quality isn't great due to lighting and the glass display, but there are take & paint kits, mugs, bowls, platters and more. Stop in to check out my functional pottery as well as handmade products from other local artisans.
