Inspiration is everywhere. Even when it’s an awful, invasive, almost impossible to kill species. I noticed this on my walk today and thought “oh that might be nice to sketch or paint.” Turns out it’s Japanese Knotweed. Who knew it was so pretty?

Dolly Parton's deep connection to the Great Smoky Mountains inspired a lifelong appreciation for nature, community and giving back.

In a National Geographic interview, Dolly urged people to take better care of the natural world, saying, “We should pay more attention. We’re just mistreating Mother Nature—that’s like being ugly to your mama. We need to take better care of the things that God gave us freely. And that we’re so freely messing up.”

As we remember Dolly's extraordinary life, we're also reminded why protecting the places that inspire us matters, so wildlife can thrive, future generations can make memories of their own and everyone can experience the freedom of the outdoors.

I’m struggling with drawing portraits - how about quilting them? How fabulous is this?

Finished! “Teresa”, 48” by 55.5”. I am working on a reel of the entire process which I will post soon! It was a challenging but joyful project and I thank my friend for giving me the perfect image to create.

“Our Brief Belonging”

That’s my aging hand cradling some tiny, new wildflower blooms. I couldn’t help but be struck by the contrast of the new blooms with my old hand and the recognition that although MY life will end, LIFE will continue on. Sorry, I think I’m getting a bit philosophical (and maybe a bit pretentious?) in my old age. 😊.
