Check out this link to the German Heritage Council. http://germanfestival.org/UnitedSingers.htm They are the folks who used to put on the German Festival at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel. They have a good synopsis of the history of the United Singers of Newark to whom Saenger Chor Newark belongs.

The United Singers of Newark, N. J., Inc. were at the turn of the century the largest Singing Society in the State of New Jersey. In the 100 years of their existence they have kept German songs and German culture alive.
