We are so excited to announce the audition information for our upcoming all-BIPOC Musical Theatre Showcase!
Last semester, an incredible BIPOC performer (Perrin Williams, PO '22, who will be working as a Producer on this project) approached us with the idea of an all-BIPOC Musical Theatre Showcase, which will be spearheaded by Annie Lewis and Aydin Mallery. The vision was to showcase the incredible BIPOC talent at this school, while simultaneously working to dismantle the systemic racism within the institution of Musical Theatre. The idea is that the team behind this show would be completely comprised of BIPOC, from cast to crew to creative team. Perrin's concept behind the show is a blend of incredible songs made for BIPOC performers (think In the Heights, The Wiz, West Side Story, and more) mixed with BIPOC performers taking songs from roles that have been traditionally cast as white, and taking ownership of them. Here at Spotlight MT, we cannot wait to support this vision and help it come to life.
To sign up for an audition, please fill out this audition form! (also found at tinyurl.com/BIPOCaudition)
You will need to prepare one minute of a contemporary musical theatre song (think Dear Evan Hansen, West Side Story, Aladdin etc.). Additionally, please have the karaoke version of your song available on your phone to accompany you during your audition.
