I had an otterly amazing time last weekend at Otter Beer Fest, a reminder that working together we can turn the tide and protect our costal ecosystems. I'm always honored to take part in events working towards positive change, and the mission of the Elakha Alliance is one that I'm so proud to be able to support. I had the opportunity to sea otters in the wild early last year during a visit to Monterey (more details and photos from those travels coming soon) and found them so beautiful. Then, when I learned about the Elakha Alliance and their mission through the Portland Aquarium a few months later, I instantly fell in love. We are nothing without the natural world, and although human action has caused harm, we can repair, restore, and create a better Oregon and a better world.

Huge thanks to for their incredible work, for her dedication and hard work in making such an amazing event happen, all of the fantastic breweries, providing some groovy tunes for ambiance, and to everyone who stopped by for a poem or just to sea me and say hi!

Resistance comes in many forms. I know how hard it can be to function when so many awful things are happening that are so far beyond our control. To stand up and speak out is powerful. To forge community bonds and support grassroots action is powerful. To create art is powerful.
Throughout my journey as an artist I have had the opportunity to make so many incredible connections and see the power of community firsthand.

Last month I had the honor of being invited to the Neighbors for Change Civic Action Fair, an event that encompassed such a beautiful showcase of what grassroots action, community, and protest art can be. I wanted to curate a work that features the voices of our community overlaid on a photo I took at the No Kings march last October, as well as offer attendees the opportunity to dictate a letter to be sent one of their elected representatives. It was so incredible getting to interact with and meet with representatives of various grassroots organizations.

Then, last weekend I was honored to be able to take part in a truly one of a kind art piece curated by Michael James Schneider, as part of the No Kings rally and march. Standing on the Burnside Bridge with thousands of others to spell out a message of resilience and hope was energizing. Joining in and marching side by side with so many passionate hearts that I know will never be silent was more than reassuring, it was hopeful, and hope can be so hard to find these days.

I couldn't help but leave a piece of art behind, on my journey, a message to those who may pass a certain Beach for poets, to perhaps help kindle hope for a passerby on a tough day. A message I truly believe is that when we have community we are never alone.

All images here were photographed by myself, with the exception of the drone image taken by Michael James Schneider.

From a mountain summit to descending underground, there's nowhere that The Traveling Typist won't take a typewriter!

I've always had a wanderlust, and when I learned about Jeff Merkley's Oregon Treasures Quest, an idea was sparked. Inspired by a vintage Corona typewriter ad about typing across Oregon, I set out on a to visit as many counties as I could, joined by my beautiful 1940 Underwood Champion with integrated tripod. Twenty five counties and over 3,000 miles later, the journey had carried me across the state to places both familiar and entirely new. At each location I typed a poem that I felt represented the spirit of that location. From hand crafted carousels and carefully curated museums to some of Oregon's most stunning natural wonders, my journey was never dull, and I hope sharing this journey inspires others to explore Oregon and all the wonderful beauty it has to offer.

I'm not always the best about posting on social media, but I saw the Treasures Quest as the perfect push to share more of my photography and travels. It's been a year full of adventure, both in Treasures Quest and beyond, and my goal is to finally sharing them here. I created The Traveling Typist to be more than just a place to share my poetry events and busking, I wanted it to be a chronicle of my passion for typewriters, travel, and the stories found in each place. My dream is to spread typewriter joy everywhere I go and to showcase some of the most beautiful spots this world has to offer. That's what The Traveling Typist is all about. I hope everyone will join me on this journey around Oregon (and beyond) as I finally delve in to the huge trove of photos and writing that I've created while out in the world with my typewriters.

The TYPIST is Traveling! I'm always on the move, whether for an event, a street side pop up, or just exploring the world, and of course I've always got a typewriter by my side. When you see TYPIST out and about, you know that it's The Traveling Typist!

I don't cherish driving, but car centric America unfortunately necessitate me to own one, so when I was car shopping I knew that a Prius was the right choice to help reduce my environmental impact as I went. Over the past year I've had the opportunity to visit and type in some truly incredible places, and though social media isn't my strong suit (what can I say, I prefer to stick to the analogue, no desire for a computer here) I've taken some beautiful photos that I'd love to showcase. I've also got a secret project I've been working on that I'll be revealing very soon, and I can't wait to share it with the world!

A rainbow breaking through grey skies was the perfect beginning to a wonderful night creating poetry in support of the Oregon Humane Society. Bowser's Boo Bash was a whirlwind of costumes, connection, and of course, plenty of pets and poetry. I'm always so honored to be able to share my poetry in support of positive change, especially as so many are struggling in our world. If anyone has charity events that they'd like a poet at, please reach out to me. Spreading joy and making a positive impact on the world is what The Traveling Typist is all about.

I've always had the spirit of a collector. From a young age I found myself drawn to the stories that objects have to share, both typewriters and beyond, so when I heard about the Office of Collecting and Design I was immediately fascinated. Their collection is truly one of a kind, a compilation of beauty neatly organized in cases and cabinets. Inside every drawer hides something new to discover. When they first came to Portland late last year I of course had to make a visit, and had a wonderful time scouring their collection in a scavenger hunt. It also inspired me to create a micro poem as a gift, something that could channel the spirit of collecting. Of course, when I saw that they were again returning to Portland late last month for another stop before heading easy, I couldn't miss out on the chance to create a flatlay. There is something truly powerful about being able to browse through drawer after drawer, letting your creativity blossom and your mind wander. I'm so grateful for having the opportunity to experience such a wonderful place, and cannot recommend them enough. They'll be on the road for some time, visiting a plethora of cities, so if you know anyone in their path definitely let them know!

I want to thank Jessica for her incredible kindness and creative spirit. She truly made our visit unforgettable.

Every moment inside the Office of Collecting & Design was truly enchanting, and it gave me some wonderful inspiration for a project of my own that I've been working hard on and hope to share more of soon, The Typewriter Conservatory.

In uncertain times, it's important to remember that imagination is powerful. It remind us that change is possible, that we can set sail into new stories and bring our dreams to life, and that when we come together we can create something beautiful, a collective experience. Imagination can bring us hope and help us bring our hopes to life, to stand together and make something better

At Pickathon, the Coyote Den brings alive an atmosphere of community, creativity, and joy, and that was the energy that I wanted to nurture with my project this year. The Hopeful Harbor was an invitation for anyone, young or old, to let loose with their creativity, design their sailboat, and set sail on an adventure born from their imagination. To play the role of the scribe, weaving seafaring tales of adventure and hope using my typewriter was such a privilege. From lost islands in far away seas to visiting family in California, each story was a truly unique.

I want to give thanks to everyone at Pickathon and the Coyote Den who work so hard to create such a unique experience and gathering of kindred spirits every year. Being part of Pickathon is an incredible privilege, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do so.
To Red Yarn for always being an incredible supporter of my work and sharing it with the world, and to Faering Millington for allowing me to use her beautiful Coyote Cove image as the backdrop for the hopeful harbor.

For me, creating bespoke poetry is about more than just the act of writing. A core philosophy of mine is accessibility, making sure that anyone, regardless of circumstance, can experience the joy of a poem written just for them. Recently, while at an event, I had the chance to fully embody that belief and facilitate a unique connection between mother and daughter.

When Sarena requested a poem as a gift for her mother, Gena, an adventurous spirit who was always on the move, I was happy to oblige. When she mentioned that Gena also happened to be blind, I knew that I had the perfect machine to create something even more special. Enter my beautiful 1940's Hall Brailllewriter. It took a bit of learning, but before long I had translated the poem into braille.

It was an honor to be able to create this poem for Gena and Serena. To be able to use the typewriters that I love to create for others is always a privilege, and I feel so lucky every time I have the opportunity.

They don't call me The Traveling Typist for nothing! I'm always on the move, even if that means going round and round for no reason in particular. The "bikewriter" (or should I call it the (typebike) is my latest innovation in traveling typing technology, one that I've been brainstorming for months and was so excited to finally get to share with the world at Ladds 500. It was a joyous experience getting to spend the day riding around with so many friendly faces, all in the name of doing something stupid in a city that we love. I look forward to putting the bikewriter to further use this summer, so keep your eyes peeled on the street for The Traveling Typist!

Huge shoutout to the Ladds 500 organizers, volunteers, and everyone who came out to make such an incredible day possible. The beauty of a community coming together is something so wonderful to behold, and I feel so lucky to get to live in such an amazing city.

Had an enchanting night crafting custom poems at the Portland Art Museum to celebrate the opening of the newest exhibition, "Monet to Matisse: French Moderns" The ambiance was très joyeuse with so many wonderful souls gathered together to admire some truly beautiful works of art. I was honored to be able to bring out my beautiful Reinmetal portable with it's AZERTY French layout to add a touch of French charm to my poetry. Huge thanks to Vibrant Table Catering & Events for inviting me to share ma poésie, and to Portland Art Museum for putting on such a beautiful opening night.
