Once a year I go back to my monster-making roots and make a large batch of Wibbly Woos. Many had homes before they were even created, but a select 9 (shown in the first photo) are available to good homes via Bloodline Merchants.

In my last post I talked about my crochet obsession, and how I am in a crochet group at . This is a quilt table runner I made there last month in a quilt-as-you-go class I treated myself to for my birthday. (Fun puppy hijinks and birthday cake not included). I also teach there, that’s where most of my classes take place, and in general I hang out there. A lot.
In fact, tonight is open stitch night from 6-8pm, so if you want to bring whatever you’re working on and just chill with lovely people for a few hours, please do!! It’s good for the soul.

So if I haven’t been making hats lately, what HAVE I been up to? I’ve learned through the years that sometimes my artist brain needs a change of scenery. It needs to make what sparks joy, and for the moment that just isn’t hats. It will be again, but only if I give myself time to explore some other avenues.
The biggest diversion on this creativity side trip has been crocheting my first ever sweater. It goes everywhere with me; by the fire pit, to my Creative Juice meetings, and most especially made for excellent company that fateful day I scored Taylor Swift tickets for my daughter and her friends. It isn’t finished yet…but it is getting so very, very close…

What, you ask, is Frippery?Frippery is a bit of showy ornamentation made of scraps and beads. Using Christen Brown's book, Beaded Embroidery Stitching, we will make our own decorative baubles. I will supply an "all you care to bead" bar, and any other materials you may need so that we can dive right into the project and just have fun. Simple hand sewing skills needed; recommended for teens and adults.

Oh, dear friends, wherever did I go? This little beauty I dubbed “Sage Advice” was made at the beginning of November (beautiful green fur felt, self trim and vintage lucite buckle, vintage silk scarf lining), then somehow the month just evaporated into thin air, like the wisp of a dream.
“Sage Advice” found a home almost immediately. I’ve been working all month on a million things that AREN’T hats, hence my silence. But I missed you and I’m back sharing my little creations. Isn’t my model stunning? I made her, too 😉

The artist talk at Weavers Guild yesterday was such a gift. It isn’t often I get the opportunity to talk about my work to that extent. In fact, that may be the first time I’ve shared so much for so long about my art, why I make it, and what my process is. It fills my heart with so much gratitude to share what I create with other people, to see their reactions, to hear their thoughts. That’s all any artist wants, right? A warm reaction to our creations, knowing our messages are reaching a receptive audience.
My deepest thanks to everyone who attended yesterday. Your support and interest mean the world to me. Thank you a thousand times to Barbara Moss and Cynthia Sturdevant for mounting the show, hosting the event, and being delightful company all along the way. I’m enjoying my flowers today and feeling inspired.

The Hedy Lamarr…This dramatically brimmed beauty is named for the brilliant inventor Hedy Lamarr, also well known for her illustrious film career. It is made of a velour fur felt capeline in a luscious burgundy, boasts a beaded applique on the front of the crown, and a fun surprise of beaded organza ribbon under that daring swoop of a brim. Inside it is lined in a vintage silk scarf and features an adjustable grosgrain ribbon hatband that makes it suitable for a size 21.5”-22.5” head.

The “Aracari” Panama straw hat is named after the tropical variety of toucan found throughout South America, Mexico, and Panama. The straw was handwoven in Ecuador, and it is trimmed in an embroidered and beaded appliqué from India. The brim is 4.5 inches, and the adjustable inner hatband fits 21.5-23 inch heads best. Here’s a fun glimpse into my process. When veiling needs a little extra oomph I add chenille dots, in this case from vintage chenille covered wire. But occasionally I’m NOT a supply snob and I resort to plain old craft store pipe cleaners 😂.
