Chris Hite's review of the Adjustrite Musican's Chair by Vivo: I have owned and used the chair for the last year and have found it to be one of my best purchases. The chair is sturdy yet portable in its folded position. Padding is firm and substantial. The back rest doesn't force the player into any one position but is comfortable. The leg height is adjustable (hence the name) and allows me to get my preferred hip/leg angle and remain comfortable for long rehearsals/performances. Having my own chair for any venue takes the guesswork out of whether or not I will be comfortable playing. The chair is available in regular and tall versions and the regular fits me fine. I'm 6'2" with a tall torso. Players with longer legs will find the tall version serves them better.
What I find most rewarding is that my posture allows me to hold the tuba securely without it diving towards the bell. This is helpful when playing with a microphone in the bell. Sound techs are happy that I don't move around under the mic. My sound going in predictably the same direction into the hall is a benefit for me and my colleagues. I like to remove as many variables from my "playing equation" as possible and the Adjustrite chair helps me do that. Previously, I had used a drum throne with success but I didn't realize how much moving around I did while using that setup.
Disclosure: I used my own money to purchase the chair as well as one for my wife. I receive nothing from the manufacturer. I thought this brief review would be helpful to anyone searching for a musician's chair. Both versions are available in our Union Centre showroom or online at www.willismusic.com.
