Mariemont Players Inc.

Mariemont Players Inc. 🎭 Award-Winning 🏆 community theatre since 1936! MPI was formed over 75 years ago as a church group that performed plays in the village of Mariemont, Ohio.

Founded in 1936, the group began a regular season of performances in the 1950s and was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization on August 28, 1956 by its president, Woodrow (Woody) Jarrett. In honor of Woody and Lois Jarrett’s longtime commitment to the theater, the auditorium is named for them. In 1960, for $8,250, the group bought the old Plainville four-room school building. Volunteer memb

ers have been converting the structure into the Walton Creek Theater ever since. The original building’s cornerstone was laid in 1869, but the present solid brick building at the intersection of Walton Creek and Muchmore Roads dates from 1910. We’re fortunate to be one of the few local community theaters with a permanent home. Our continuing improvements to the building include an elevator to the theater auditorium, replacement windows and doors, a new costume room, modern lighting and sound systems, a handicap-accessible restroom on the first floor, a new dressing and Green Room for our casts and crews, and a new roof. The Players have had almost 500 members during the past 10 years. Some have become movie actors, Broadway musical directors and played roles in professional theater, TV and Internet commercials, corporate videos and voice-overs plus dozens of support roles in media and the creative arts.

What role or production position are you taking on for Arsenic and Old Lace?
Costume Design 🤩

How long have you been part of the Mariemont Players family? What was your very first show here?
Since 2023, the first show was Rumors. 😍

What is one word you’d use to describe the delightful madness of the Brewster household?
Unconventional? but also quirky, eccentric, & loyal. 👪

The Brewster house is full of strange heirloom quirks. What is the weirdest, oldest, or most unexpected object currently sitting in your home?
My husband loves to get random chotchkies and fun things made... we have a portrait of our family that is almost life-sized. It's equal parts amazing and hilarious. I'm not on team AI, but if it's to make silly things like this, then make me another. 📸

Mortimer is a theater critic who secretly gets annoyed by theater clichés. What is a minor annoyance, pet peeve, or movie/show trope that always gets on your nerves?
Not necessarily a trope, but any one person that takes themselves too seriously is a red flag for me. Teamwork makes the dream work, lighten up and have some fun. 🎢

Share a photo of your favorite "found family" moment with this cast/crew or a favorite memory from a past production!
No photos, but thinking of making letterman jackets for the production teams that follow Jen and Eric Day around Cincinnati. This will be my 6th production with a Day at the helm. 6️⃣

🎭 Rehearsals are officially UNDERWAY for Arsenic and Old Lace! 🎭

Things are getting delightfully chaotic (and a little bit dangerous!) at Walton Creek Theater!

Huge shoutout to the multi-talented Eric Day, who is wearing just about every hat imaginable for this production—serving as Assistant Director, Light/Sound Operator, Fight Coordinator, and taking the stage as Mr. Gibbs!

Eric recently led an intense (and hilarious) fight choreography session with Jeff Griffiths (Officer Klein), Ben Gwinnell (Jonathan Brewster), and Matt Miller (Officer Brophy). You won't want to miss seeing all their hard work and action pay off on stage!

Come see what this incredible cast and crew have been brewing up! 🍷✨

What role or production position are you taking on for Arsenic and Old Lace?
Martha Brewster 🤩

How long have you been part of the Mariemont Players family? What was your very first show here?
In January, 2019, I ended a 24-year hiatus from acting to play Charlotte in “Three Bags Full.” The people involved in that production are still my dearest friends. 😍

Abby and Martha are famous for their deadly hospitality. What is your actual go-to favorite drink or comfort food to offer guests when they come over?
There’s something just that special about sharing a cuppa or having kaffee kuchen with a friend. Cookie Monster is my spirit animal. 🍪

The Brewster family is full of unexpected surprises. What is a random, unusual, or surprising secret talent you have that most people don't know about?
Passing down a family tradition, I make unique Christmas stockings out of woolen felt, beads, sequins and other objects. Artsy-craftsy. 🎄

The Brewster house is full of strange heirloom quirks. What is the weirdest, oldest, or most unexpected object currently sitting in your home?
My mother is a quilter and she owns two, Featherweight Singer sewing machines. They’re often exhibited in museums. 🪡

Mortimer is a theater critic who secretly gets annoyed by theater clichés. What is a minor annoyance, pet peeve, or movie/show trope that always gets on your nerves?
Not a fan of pumped up music to get the audience to feel something. If you’re trying to hook me like that, chances are it’s just a bad show. 🎶

🎭 : Let's meet Jennifer Day , part of the crew in Mariemont Players' production of Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring 🍷☠️👵🏻! Learn more and secure your seats now here: https://www.mariemontplayers.com/arsenic 🎟

What role or production position are you taking on for Arsenic and Old Lace?
I am the Director, and I'm very excited to helm this production! 🤩

How long have you been part of the Mariemont Players family? What was your very first show here?
My first production was Where's Charley? in 1996. Incidentally, that was the first time I got to work with Julia Hasl Miller, who is playing Abby in this show. Here's a pic of the two of us in our fancy updo's. 👱🏻‍♀️

The Brewster house is full of strange heirloom quirks. What is the weirdest, oldest, or most unexpected object currently sitting in your home?
The oldest objects in my home are a set of antique art deco glass perfume bottles that used to belong to my mother. They sat on her bedroom dresser and now they're on mine. 💋

Mortimer is a theater critic who secretly gets annoyed by theater clichés. What is a minor annoyance, pet peeve, or movie/show trope that always gets on your nerves?
Whyyyyy do people in scary movies walk around a dark house when they know there's a killer on the loose??? I'd be running straight to the nice brightly lit building (or asking, "What about the running car?" like in the Geico commercial). 😱

Jonathan Brewster ends up looking like Boris Karloff thanks to a bad surgeon. If you had to look like any classic movie icon or fictional character, who would you choose?
Hannah Waddingham is a beautiful woman! I'd look like her any time. 💃

Share a photo of your favorite "found family" moment with this cast/crew or a favorite memory from a past production!
I've gotten to direct several shows here at Mariemont, including Evelyn In Purgatory which ran in January 2020 - right before Covid19 shut the world down. One of my cast members sent us all a reunion pic with a special guest inserted into the photo. Take a look and see who made a special appearance on our school room set...👀
