Scott Holzman is a writer, poet, curator, and conceptual artist based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. His practice is focused on the ways by which meaning is informed through context, and how seemingly unlike things interact when they share space. He served as the executive director of Chase Public, a collaborative space for art and assembly from 2013-2018. He is currently working to understand what the inversion of a going-away party would look like. This was his first experience with tabletop role-playing games, and now he is hooked.

Artist and DM Feature:

Jeb Brack is a freelance writer, illustrator, and podcaster. He writes fiction and online content, draws house portraits and fantasy illustrations on commission, and co-hosts "All In The Reflexes," a podcast about geek culture. As a result, he makes very little money. He is one of the leaders of the Cincinnati Urban Sketchers group along with fellow gamer Christina Wald.

Jeb has been playing role playing games for forty (40!) years now, since before it was cool, starting with purple box D&D. He discovered the joy of game mastering early and has run games in almost every genre, and in many different systems. Ask him about his favorites; he'll go on and on. He recently co-published a book of ideas for role-playing games, "Random Encounters Season One Omnibus," including his essays and illustrations. The essay "The Dragon Mine" makes an appearance in the Ral Buldhar campaign.

You can find Jeb's work on his Instagram, , and on his website, wordspicturesmagic.com.

This was Gabrielle’s first D&D campaign and, oooo wee, it was the best. World-building is the best because it’s a completely immersive and wild ride. Collaborative storytelling is the best because it requires continuous, nimble improvisation. And role-play games are the best because it feels real fun to make decisions as an acrobatic, chaotic elf.

Alexa Justice is the daughter of two artists, so she decided to be a history major. She was born in Ohio but dragged all around the world by her parents' work before landing back in Cincinnati, where she works in the Sociology Department at the University of Cincinnati. She has been active in the theater community wherever she's lived, and is a frequent stage manager and techie at various theaters around town. While working on shows in college, she and her friends would play Dungeons and Dragons between shows, which sparked her love of the game. Over the past ten years, she has played Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 through 5.0, and is often a Dungeon Master (DM) for her friends.

This connection between theater and role-playing games is what drew her to this project, and in particular viewing D&D as a theatrical activity. Although there are rough guidelines to the games, they boil down to improvisational group storytelling, which is what connects the players to the story and gets them invested in it. Every player has a part in creating the world they are playing in. For the sake of this show, this led to the reverse creation of a script; instead of reading a script to perform, we performed to create.
