Dudley Woods Metro Park, Liberty Township

Continuing with my tree portraits is this beauty. I have painting this particular tree several times now from different angles, plein air, from reference photos, in different styles from reference sketches, and it always seems to want to show me more. This piece was my first plein air from this perspective. This scene in particular brings me a sense of peace; the lean of the tree with the winding creek and the greens of the forest really speak to me. I hope everyone can enjoy this view as much as I do.

Basking in Light

The gorgeous Colibri! She is visually stunning and an audible treasure. Also called a "Violetear" hummingbird, they are found in Mexico, Central America and Western South America. What a songbird! Their song is loud and long lasting and often contains double notes! I created this pastel painting to enjoy the beauty. This is based on a free reference photo by Sebascordero on WordPress Directory.

VOA MetroPark

I began my plein air journey a little over a month ago just wanting to try something new, 17 paintings later, I think its safe to say I found my new favorite style/technique.
Lately, I have been preparing my own hardboard panels and this piece is part of my experimentation with different grounds and textures in preparation for a plein air event in August.
This was painted at Voice of America MetroPark in West Chester about halfway up Chill Hill facing the VOA Lake. It was a very nice evening with several people stopping to talk and while I haven't seen any other artists out in my short time painting in the wild I hope to soon or at the very least, inspire someone to pick up a brush and start their own journey.

Icy Blue Landscape

Winter landscapes often evoke a feeling of calmness and serenity. That's what I hope you experience when you look at this scene. I used Unison soft pastels on Pastelmat to create a blend of icy winter colors.
