A very enjoyable night landscape session last night near Benton Harbor, Michigan. The wind coming in off Lake Michigan was whipping up a very nice surface making for great, if rather chilly conditions.

This is the North Pier and lighthouse at Tiscornia Beach, with Venus low in the Western sky.

This was captured just after last light using high ISO to allow a 1/2 second exposure as I didn’t want to smooth out the waves too much.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love night time cityscape work. It can be technically challenging, it’s time consuming and takes a bit of work, but the results can be so well worth it.

One of the finest cities anywhere for this work is Chicago. My opinion is that there isn’t a more beautiful city skyline anywhere, much as I love such gems as New York, Seattle, Pittsburgh, London etc.

This is Chicago on Thursday night from Navy Pier. I had come hoping for a nice sunset and was rewarded with no sunset at all, not the slightest hint of gold in the sky, but it did did develop into a nice blue hour so certainly not a loss.
