Today, during the Final Exam period for the Seminar in Dramatic Literature: Applied Theatre (THTR 4493) course, students presented their research in a "conference style" panel. Having course assignments mirror real-world application of research and presentation skills demonstrates the direct connection between study and creation in the arts.
Our "session" topic was "Applying Theatre: Developing our Craft with Inspiration from the History of Theatre for Social Change"
Presenters included:
Cortlin Hudson, "Theatrical Conventions Developed by the Federal Theatre Project Living Newspaper Performances"
Abby Dansereau, "How Political Backlash Shaped the Mission of the San Francisco Mime Troupe"
Envy Perez, "Cheap Art: Puppetry and Political Media of the Bread and Puppet Theatre"
Avery Sanborn, "Oh! What A Circus: How Mass Media Killed Bread and Puppet's Resurrection Festival"
Jasmine Lamp, "Realizing America's Black Theatre: Penumbra Theatre's Influence on Social Change"
Gissell Castillo, "The Innovation and Development of Applied Theatre Forms by Teatro Campesino"
BRAVO to these and all students who challenged themselves to produce great work this term!!!
