Meet the Playwright of "The King & Queen of Foggy Flats," R.H. Nicholson, winner of the 2025 Chickasaw Writers Project.
R. H. Nicholson and his wife live in a small Ohio River Valley town with their cat, Fezziwig. He is an award‑winning playwright, author, and former professor of English who has spent four decades teaching writing before focusing on his own creative work. In addition to his playwriting, Nicholson has published in literary journals such as Ignatian Magazine, Adelaide Literary Journal, Echo Ink, The Blue Lake Review, and The Back Porch.
His debut novel, "Justice House Shadows," is a collection of short stories set in an Appalachian town, following the colorful life of Betty Brogan, a Southern Belle whose presence shapes the community. He is known for blending literary fiction with theatrical storytelling, producing both novels and plays that explore Southern life, small‑town communities, and complex human relationships.
Nicholson will be at Chickasaw Civic Theatre during the run of the play. Patrons will be able to meet him and speak to him about his work in formal talk back sessions and personally during intermission and after each performance. In addition he will be featured in “An Afternoon with R.H. Nicholson” at The Haunted Book Shop in Mobile Saturday June 27 at 2 PM, where he will discuss his novel and play, share creative insights, and sign copies of his book.
