Founder's Statement
Descent LARP, as an organization, is founded on the idea that no matter the game, everyone participating should be able to enjoy the experience. This way even if participants may not get along outside of the game, they can all experience the joy of the game as a community. One of the objectives of Descent is to take these experiences from both our players and staff and to crea
te healthy growth from them. Part of creating this growth is through a consistent and stable environment. These values will be reflected in the in-game lore and mechanics of the game. Please expect the environment and story to remain consistent both to itself and to the in-game lore. This requires both our staff and our players to show Mercy, Compassion, Understanding, and Kindness to each other while out of play and have that reflected in play. While Characters ‘in-play’ may have conflict, we expect our community to approach the conflict as a storytelling experience that requires out of play Communication to be addressed fully. This will create a world that not only gives our players a chance to grow as people, but also feels like it’s alive. While worlds that feel alive are exciting and fun to explore, there are some considerations that need to be addressed for members of the player base or staff. Due to circumstances that may not be in anyone’s control, there may be subjects, actions, or experiences that can cause distress or damage to some of the members of our community. Our staff is aware of issues like these and are ready and willing to help any of our Community avoid these situations or address them in healthy manners. While our staff is human, and we expect to run into situations where the answer may not be clear at first, we will continue to work Morally and Respectfully to help each member of our community to move forward both in the game and in their life outside the game. We expect to see new friends, old friends, and soon-to-be friends at every event. However, We feel we need to remind everyone that our staff shall be fair in all of their dealings with in-game matters. We will be working hard for our players and favoritism is not something that can be entertained with as much work as we have put in for everyone’s enjoyment. We encourage players to find their enjoyment and remind them that in-game ‘power’ comes in as many different forms as their are players. While some players may find their stride in combat, some may find they truly enjoy robust negotiations or the hoarding of resources. While a Soldier or Knight may be able to cut a path through a battle, they might be brought low by their inability to feed the poor and struggling. While a Merchant may have accumulated a fortune in equipment and gold, that gold may not protect them from the bounty hunters out for their blood. Above all, our goal is to provide everyone with a healthy and fun environment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
