with a little red twist. Redtwist’s mission is to do searing hot drama, in a tiny black box, with a little red twist.

A non-profit organization, we traditionally perform five mainstage plays per season, focusing on edgy American classics, casting primarily from our venerable ensemble and leveraging our intimate space as if it were the final character in the play. To date, Redtwist has produced 68 Main season plays at its Bryn Mawr location, some as classically groundbreaking as WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? (3 Jeff Nominations for actors), as intense and ever timeless as Arthur Miller’s INCIDENT AT VICHY (Jeff Nominated ensemble), and as original as the Chicago Premiere of RABBIT SUMMER (Jeff Recommended). During Redtwist’s time in the heart of Edgewater’s Bryn Mawr Historic District, its 68 productions have received 50 Jeff nominations and won 9 Non-Equity Jeff Awards including one for Best Production for MAN FROM NEBRASKA in 2011.

Meet Michele Stine (Michele Stine ), the brilliant writer and performer bringing ALWAYS, SOMETIMES, MAYBE to our One-on-Wednesdays mainstage!

From the Lyric Opera of Chicago to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Michele has brought her work to stages near and far. And now they’re bringing their critically acclaimed solo clown show right to the Redtwist black box.

In ALWAYS, SOMETIMES, MAYBE, a lonely janitor makes friends out of trash, using physical comedy, puppetry, and a whole lot of imagination to explore how we find our way back to each other.

BIG NEWS coming to our tiny black box 🐵🪽

We’re so excited to announce that this winter, Tony Award-winning director Robert Falls is coming to Redtwist to direct FLYING MONKEYS, a new play by Chicago playwright L.C. Bernadine.

From the nearly 3,500-seat Lyric Opera house to just over 35 seats in our Edgewater black box, Falls returns to his Chicago storefront roots for a story with “no easy villains and no easy answers.”

Flying Monkeys follows two transport agents hired to take a 15-year-old girl to a residential treatment program across the country. A job that forces everyone involved to confront what desperation can justify.

We are proud to announce ALWAYS, SOMETIMES, MAYBE, the next installment of Redtwist’s solo performance series, One-On-Wednesdays. These one-person shows bring intimate works to the stage every Wednesday during our mainstage production’s run.

Written and performed by Michele Stein and directed by Raquel Torre, Always, Sometimes, Maybe invites audiences to explore what it’s like to feel “different” to others.
