Chana Zelig is a Chicago artist and writer who blends words, images, allusions, language and color in her paintings and stained glass and textile synagogue installations. Guided by her belief that unique insight happens in the joining of different forms of communication, Chana creates a visual poetry of Judaic imagery and Hebraic scholarship with associations across artistic and intellectual disci
plines, cultural narratives, her inner life and personal impressions. A member of Images Gallery Cooperative in Chicago, Chana Zelig’s art connects personal narratives with their larger cultural framework for clients throughout the United States and Israel. Her stained glass work includes ten windows for the Temple Beth-El sanctuary in Northbrook, Illinois and six chapel windows and a large glass wall partition at Temple Am Shalom in Glencoe, Illinois. For each of these commissions, Zelig fabricated the glass in Taunusstein, Germany. Zelig has also created large works in fiber, including the donor recognition wall, sanctuary ark curtains, bima (podium) covers and a large tapestry presented by a non-profit organization to its founder. Chana’s spirit infuses the celebrated arts salon she founded, hosts and curates. The salon features readings and performances by noted poets, authors, musicians, historians, journalists, scientists, photographers, filmmakers, playwrights and theater artists, as well as her own writing.
