Each season we will produce fully developed Shakespearean plays, and New Works inspired by those plays. In dedicating ourselves to Shakespeare, we must also encourage the very profession he was immortalizing. Shakespeare is two things: a body of work, and a playwright. We do not believe in rewriting Shakespeare, but we do believe in elevating the playwright. Shakespeare stole from Marlow, Marlow s
tole from Kyd, and all of them stole from popular history. We would like to give new playwrights that same opportunity for theft. Let’s bring Shakespeare back to the playwrights. Our Mission:
The Commission Theater Company is dedicated to these ideals:
-We will produce the works of William Shakespeare
-We will work to honor and understand the verse, and in turn bring it clearly to the audience
-We will encourage and elevate the playwright
-We will give playwrights an avenue to create new work inspired by Shakespeare theme’s, language, and stories.
