The Maryland Wind Festival (MWF) brings wind chamber music to western Maryland each summer through high level performances, educational opportunities, and commissioning projects led by an ensemble of young classical musicians from around the world. Led by Artistic Director Tyler Austin, MWF enriches Maryland communities through educating young musicians and bringing professional wind music to both traditional concert venues and non-traditional spaces.

🎻 Double Bassists — there’s still time!

Applications are still open for the Newfound Chamber Winds Double Bass Fellowship at the 2026 NFCW Summer Festival, held at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA (June 8–16, 2026).

Join us for an exciting program of music-making where you will:
✨ Perform chamber music in a wind dectet setting
🎼 Rehearse and perform new works by student composers
🎓 Participate in professional development workshops and clinics
🎵 Receive lessons and coachings with our outstanding artist faculty, including double bassist Zachary Hobin

This is a fantastic opportunity for collegiate bassists (rising sophomores and above) to collaborate with composers and performers in a dynamic chamber music environment.

We loved meeting and working with so many talented MSU students in masterclasses and composition readings, presenting a chamber music recital, engaging in educational outreach both on and off campus, and sharing the stage with the Wind Symphony performing Gala Flagello’s “The Bird-While.” MSU is a special place!

We are thrilled to announce that Stacy Garrop will join the Newfound Chamber Winds Tidewater Composition Workshop as our 2026 Composer Guest Artist! 🎉

Join us June 8–16, 2026 in Norfolk, Virginia for an immersive workshop of collaboration, mentorship, and hands-on work with an incredible composition faculty including David Biedenbender, Viet Cuong, Danielle Fisher, and Stacy Garrop. We’re thrilled to announce that Double Bass has officially been added to the Newfound Chamber Winds Chamber Music Fellowship Program!

For the first time, bassists will join our fellows in an immersive week of chamber music, wind detet performances, collaborations with composers, and professional development at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, June 8–16, 2026.

Double bass fellows will:
🎶 Perform in chamber ensembles and wind detets
🎶 Work closely with artist faculty
🎶 Rehearse and premiere works by student composers
🎶 Participate in professional development workshops and clinics

We can’t wait to welcome double bassists into the NFCW community and expand the depth and possibilities of our chamber music experience.
