There’s no better way to kick off the new school year and the start of the fall season than with art!  
 
September brings Chicago Exhibition Week (September 14–20, 2026), spotlighting Chicago’s vibrant cultural landscape and artistic spirit. 

Join us Thursday, September 17, from 5–8 pm for the FREE opening reception of Karla Wong: Journeys of Being. Enjoy Mexican cocktails and bites, connect with the artist and dance to a live performance by world-renowned singer—and friend of the artist—Geo Meneses.  

Can’t make it to the reception? Visit the Museum Wednesday–Sunday, 11 am–6 pm and experience all the Museum has to offer at your own pace. 

P.S. Know a Chicago teen, ages 15–19? Encourage them to apply for our first-ever yearlong, paid Intuiteens program!

“Karla Wong: Journeys of Being” is on view September 3. Wong’s large-scale oil paintings are a love letter to her Mexican culture. They are interwoven with her life experiences as a trans woman, a person of Mexican and Chinese heritage, and of the journeys between her homes in the United States and Oaxaca.

If you’re 15–19 and from across Chicago, this is your chance to: 

— Get paid for your time and ideas 
— Explore self-taught art and discover new artists 
— Make and exhibit your own work 
— Connect with artists, museum staff and other creative teens 
— Help shape programs, resources and experiences at the Museum 
— Build creative and leadership skills

IAM listening.

We’re sad to say goodbye to "Impressions of a City: Drawings by Marvin Young", but before the exhibition comes down, we wanted to share something you’ve been asking about: the backs of the drawings.

One of our favorite details of the installation was the way glimpses of the drawings’ backs were reflected on the wall behind them. So many of you asked if the works would be turned around, so we’re listening! We’re taking this opportunity to give you a closer look at what was reflected on the wall and what subtly seeped through to the front.

Spend a FREE day at Intuit Art Museum on Sat, Aug 23.

Explore the galleries, learn about the art on view and make your own unique artwork through hands-on activities.

Inspired by Henry Darger’s floral drawings and Dr. Charles Smith’s art environments, spend the day exploring how art can grow in unexpected places.

11:30 am–12:15 pm: Join Lead Museum Educator Joshua Willis to learn about outdoor Art Environments.

Throughout the day: Stop by the Center for Learning and Engagement (CLEO) to make your own found-object flower and plant it in the IAM art garden.

4 pm: Take a Slow Look at mobiles in Emery Blagdon’s "Healing Machine".

Admission to the Museum and all activities is free. Registration is encouraged but not required.

Chicago K–12 educators: applications for our 2026–27 Teacher Fellowship close this Sunday, Aug 23 at midnight.

Join a collaborative community of educators exploring self-taught art, teaching and new ideas together.

Teacher Fellows receive:
– Hands-on workshops with artists and museum educators
– Support for curriculum development
– Access to Museum resources
– Up to 25 Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs)
– A $500 classroom materials honorarium
– A collaborative learning community

Don’t miss your chance to experience "Impressions of a City: Drawings by Marvin Young” before it closes Sunday, August 23.

The exhibition features large-scale works made with graphite, colored pencils, crayons, pens, markers and pen on carefully pieced-together paper fragments. Together, they form expansive cityscapes inspired by Marvin Young’s memories of growing up on Chicago’s South Side. Young’s whimsical take on the city invites us to connect with and consider his remembered and reimagined experiences, blending past and present.

Plan your visit Wed–Sun, 11 am–6 pm. Admission is always free for members and guests 24 and under.
