Introducing Eardrum, a new monthly series at Bridgeport Music Collective (3201 S Morgan) every 2nd Saturday of the month. This series is curated by Bridgeport saxophonist Mai Sugimoto with support from Bridgeport Music Collective and Chicago DCASE.

The inaugural performance will be April 11th, 2026 featuring a 1st set by Carol Genetti (electronics/voice) and Peter Maunu (violin) and a second set by Paul Giallorenzo (piano), Ausberto Acevedo (bass), and Tyler Damon (drums).

[What is Eardrum?]
BMC’s Eardrum series focuses on bringing improvised music to the south side. The series aims to feature diverse artists and types of improvisation and to celebrate Chicago’s rich culture of creative and experimental scenes.

About Mai Sugimoto: Mai Sugimoto is a saxophonist, composer, educator, and active member of Chicago's jazz and creative music scene.

Set 1: Peter Maunu/Carol Genetti

Carol Genetti and Peter Maunu first met and played together over a decade ago and have continued to perform as a duo. Their music might best be described as genre bending, stream of consciousness, improvised spontaneous composition. Drawing on elements from the second Viennese School is as natural and organic as a contrasting modal, folk inspired melody, albeit with a deranged noise accompaniment. Carol Genetti’s haunting voice deconstructed by her electronics plus Peter Maunu’s various electronically processed stringed instruments result in a cinematic soundscape from an alternate universe.

Set 2: Giallorenzo/Acevedo/Damon

This collective trio, often performing as a quartet with a rotating reedist, brings together the unique voices of Paul Giallorenzo (piano), Ausberto Acevedo (bass), and Tyler Damon (drums), whose diverse backgrounds and creative energy promise to create a vibrant and dynamic collaboration. Drawing inspiration from both tradition and modernity, this group promises to create a sound that is full of surprises and spontaneous innovation.

Announcing Hunter Diamond and Missing Piece at Bridgeport Music Collective Saturday 3/7/26. 7pm doors, 8pm show.

About the show:
Diamond’s new work, Unsettling, features strings, winds, and electronics. Diamond's new work offers sound and comment on Israel from the perspective of an American Jew. He takes inspiration from contemporary Israeli writers who seek to hold Israel to account for its immense transgressions without devaluing its enormous accomplishments. In this work and in Diamond's relationship to the state of Israel, the American Jews and non-Jews of his community, and to the Jewish members of his family, one tactic has continuously proved most helpful in maintaining a sustainable position: holding contradiction. This work was commissioned by Missing Piece with the support of a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

About the artists:
Hunter Diamond is a creative woodwind and sound artist based in Chicago. Though he is most at home in the improvised music scene, a mixture of conceptual, composed, and improvised performance keeps him perpetually present in the interdisciplinary Chicago creative arts community.

As an adaptive multi-instrumentalist, Hunter Diamond frequently appears in a diverse range of contexts: one-man orchestral accompaniment for spoken word artist Marvin Tate, acoustic minimalist improvisation with movement artist Irene Hsiao, sound design and performance for storyteller/puppeteer Samuel Lewis II, ethnic chamber jazz textures for Moldovan folk singer Ana Everling, lush woodwind arrangement and performance with indie rocker Hannah Frances, and more.

In 2021 Diamond founded Curio Records, which serves as the primary outlet for his recorded work. His current projects include the new double-LP Furniture of the Mind Rearranging from his project Black Diamond (released by the Helsinki label We Jazz), and Flesh of Fruit with sound artist Allen Moore.

Missing Piece is a south side Chicago-based musical ensemble who endeavor to commission new musical and artistic works, as well as collaborate with other musicians and organizations to provide transformative musical experiences through performances and educational programming.

Announcing Forest of Signs at Bridgeport Music Collective 3/20/26 Third Friday. 7pm doors, 7:15 community music, 8pm show.

Performers:
Forest of Signs
Ben Zucker, vibraphone and compositions
Zaira Castillo, piano
Billie Howard, violin
Andrew Sudhibhasilp, guitar

About the show:
Forest of Signs is a quartet performing new original music by Ben Zucker where complexity, intuition, and exploration meet and flourish. The unusual instrumentation of electric guitar, piano, violin, and vibraphone is matched by the players’ experience across chamber music, jazz, and experimental improvisation. Bill Evans plays Stockhausen? Ryuichi Sakamoto meets Morton Feldman? The pieces are never the same twice, but are always full of intriguing, enticing combinations of dissonance, groove, and space.

On Sunday, March 1, join us for a performance by Teiku, which reframes unique and rare Eastern European Passover melodies in a Creative Music context. The expansive possibilities of instant composition, the ritualistic origins of the melodies, and the inspiration of pioneers like Sun Ra and Ornette Coleman all contribute to the immersive world of Teiku. This show will feature Bridgeporter and pianist Josh Harlow (microplastique, Vincent Davis), Detroit drummer Jonathan Barahal (saajtak, Angelica Sanchez) and bass clarinetist Jason Stein (Natural Information Society, Hearts and Minds).
