cameras up, mic up, energy up. two thursdays ago i sat down with young people getting ready to enter tech, talking about the future of work, multiple streams of income, and how we build community instead of grinding alone. correction; i didn't sit. i stood up.
one of the questions i put to them: that extra income, could it sustain your family? your friends? could it create room for you to either stay in your lane, or do the cool things in addition to the job you need to survive and feed your people?
that's a big order. it's also just the way of the future, and we're already in it. because here's the part nobody says out loud; while you're clocking in at the 9 to 5, somebody can be curating a cooler you. building the identity, the brand, the presence that opens doors your day job may not. not instead of the job, in addition to it. that's what multiple streams of income actually looks like.
i am a mentee and a mentor to people younger and not so young, and i'm asking; are you rolling with us? are you rocking with us on this? it doesn't all resonate right away. but ideally, we all end up looking like today's workforce: structured and cool, employed and building something of our own.
