These mooncakes are more than a sweet indulgence; they are edible poetry, shaped by hands and hearts from all corners of the world. Traditionally shared during the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, mooncakes honor the full moon—a symbol of wholeness, reunion, and gratitude. They speak softly of family gathered under the night sky, of love that spans distances, and of harmony that binds us together.

And yet, as Christmas arrives, I find the spirit of the season of light reflected in these delicate pastries. Christmas, too, calls us to gather, give, and hope—to share warmth in the chill of winter and offer light in moments of darkness. Though these holidays are born of different histories, beliefs, and lands, their messages intertwine like threads in the same tapestry—woven with care, compassion, and love.
Created with 4 different doughs and 2 different fillings, each color represents the diversity of our communities, our societies, and our world. Different, yet together—like these mooncakes, we too are bound by shared stories and a common humanity, forming something beautiful when we come together.
These mooncakes were not made alone. They came to life this Fall in (me and su-Chef's) Chicago home, where a group of wonderful friends from different cultures, faiths, and ethnicities stood side by side, kneading dough, making fillings, pressing molds, and filling the room with laughter and stories. Each mooncake carries the imprint of hope, love, and light that transcend borders—a reminder that humanity revives when we come together as one.
As I share them now, I send my most sincere wishes—for peace that mends, for kindness that heals, and for a world where we meet each other with more understanding, compassion, and love. May we be like the moon, casting light no matter how dark the night may seem, and like the stars, guiding each other home. 🎄✨💕
