Our Story
Pride Films and Plays shatters the stereotype of LGBTQ+ theater as appealing to a limited public. We illuminate the breadth of this canon for audiences of all demographics.
PFP tackles the most important issues of our time, which are still so consumed with discussions related to gender, Presenting Chicago or world premieres are our priority, and gender parity and racial equality a goal for each season. We enlighten audiences about gay history and serve as a bridge to the future. In addition to our Award-winning productions, we produce cabaret performances, comedy acts, and other special events. Each year we film one 10-minute short.
Just as important, PFP is developing a new type of arts organization – rethinking how students interact with seniors, and how theater, film, cabaret and comedy can be a fulfilling buffet for audiences hungry for art.
Many people worry that NetFlix and other streaming sites are the death of arts centers. But at Pride Films and Plays, we ask – why can’t our arts center be more like Netflix. With 52 weeks of programs that include both a summer and winter series. By blending music and drama, comedy and cabaret, dance and film festivals, the Pride Arts Center strives to be the beacon for the community and for those coming to Chicago to sample our great artistic projects.
