“Purple Rain” is a record; “Purple Reign” is a car. Both leave a lasting mark long after the first taste. Queue up the record and let’s talk about the car: A Sonderwunsch (Special Request) Porsche 992 GT3 RS spec’d to suit a connoisseur clearly unafraid to make a bold statement.


What’s a massive wing without a wild color to set it off? Viola Purple Metallic isn’t just “wild,” it’s visceral. Engaging. A French kiss to the retina. A color 2 die 4. When Joseph Kelner first saw it was draped suggestively across the curves of a 964 Turbo. The image lingered like the strings closing Prince’s 1983 masterpiece. Brimming with inspiration, Joseph spec’d his 992 GT3RS from the same wardrobe of that 964.


Enough Viola Purple Metallic to flatter Minnesota pop royalty. Much more than available on a Paint to Sample (PTS) GT3 RS. All the self-aggrandizing decals and the exposed carbon of the car’s Weissach Package are gone in favor of simplicity. And more purple. Inside, you’ll find purple seatbelts, purple door pulls, a purple stripe at 12 o’clock on the steering wheel, purple “GT3 RS” embroidery, and purple piping on the Silk Gray carbon bucket seats with pepita centers. Look down at the doorsill and you’ll see “Purple Reign” scrawled on the illuminated door sill guards. The key in your hand? You guessed it — no spot left untouched.


“After taking delivery in LA, I took my time driving it back to Chicago,” Joseph says. Highway 1. Air|Water. Arizona’s Valley of Fire. Utah’s Zion NP and Moab (shoutout SR-128). The Colorado Rockies. Etc. “4,500 miles, no tickets, countless diners, and even more dead bugs.”

The EL train is iconic Chicago. And the Lake Street EL is the second oldest line in our city, established in 1893. Cool fact to keep in mind while watching hundreds of Porsches stream under the Lake Street EL, entering Elizabeth as the sun rises on Check26.







On Saturday, Aug. 22, Checkeditout and the Napleton Porsche organization will bring Check26 to four blocks of Fulton Market. Ground zero lands at the intersection of Fulton and Ada. This year, we’re debuting the Napleton Centerstage Pass, offering registrants an opportunity to have their Porsches displayed on the premier block of the event.









Per usual, Checkeditout is a free-flowing event highlighting the amenities in the area. Including event partner Geneva Seal’s new 8,000-square-foot watch showroom and event partner Fulton Bond’s luxury condo project, where eventgoers can tour the models. Diverse food options abound across the site, with a large selection of restaurants on Fulton to the east. Keep strolling and you’ll find even more local food, art, and music via the West Loop Music & Art Fest, running concurrently, hosted by the West Central Association.

Today’s parking lots are a somber corral of monochrome vehicles painted to fade into the background. Because bold statements offend just as easily as inspire. Black? White? Gray? Inoffensive sure bets. Peru Red? It makes you feel something. Strongly. Porsche’s palette has always leaned bold. Rare Shades is 000’s traveling celebration of exactly that.

Last week, Rare Shades landed at a film production studio in New York City during the NYCxDESIGN Festival. Our friends at 000 were kind enough to extend an invite. The exhibit was incredible, with a fine selection of Porsches from across the brand’s history and model range painted in nearly 100 of Zuffenhausen’s rarest and most daring hues. And one very black Slantnose, the last 930 completed in 1990, displayed lonesome in an all-black sound stage.

CIO’s architect-in-residence, Dan Cubric ), was impressed with how the vibrant spectrum of color on display reverberated across the galvanized walls of WildFlower Studios. The space, designed by renowned Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, was an attraction all its own. 000’s site selection elevated the autobahn artistry within it, and vice versa.

Sorry, not so fast. We were on location with our friends at Motive Archive documenting the new home of Checkeditout. The photos, the landmarks, will all be revealed next week. For the many of you who want a taste of Check26, meet us and Off The Map this Sunday at Euroquipe.
