Hips & Heels, founded in January 2016, is a series of classes led by Brandon Avery, performer/choreographer/educator/director based in Chicago, IL. This primary vision of H&H is to facilitate spaces where people learn to "elevate YOUR sexy" through the technique of heels dance. In 2025, Hips & Heels expanded to have a Performance Colllective, recruiting pre-professional and professional dance arti
sts to deliver dance works to further embody our vision. It is our mission for students and supporters to feel elevated in and out of high heels, providing tools to promote agency, emotional intelligence, and intentional movement (personally and professionally). The classes of the series are HEELS FUNDAMENTALS--an introductory and beginner level oriented class for learning the basics of moving (i.e. walking, balancing, and doing floorwork) in different forms of high heeled shoes; HEELS FUNDAMENTALS PLUS--a dance class for beginner, experienced, and intermediate level dancers to increase their movement vocabulary and train more extensively in heels technique; and HEELS CHOREOGRAPHY--a dance class intermediate and advanced level dancers to refine their performance skills when dancing concert or commercial choreography. Hips & Heels is taught in various locations throughout Chicago, with occasional in-person classes/workshops in and students taking class virtually from other cities in the United States.
