Tango 21 Dance Theater

Tango 21 Dance Theater We are made up of Chicago-area dancers, actors and musicians of all ages and perform original works choreographed and written by Jorge Niedas & Liz Sung.

Our shows consist of Argentine tango dance and music, dance fusion, and actors with speaking roles. Tango 21 Dance Theater (T21DT) uses the language of Argentine tango dance and music to tell compelling contemporary stories with live theater performances. Our shows consist of Argentine tango dance (choreographed and improvised), Argentine tango music (recorded and live performances), dance fusion

with other disciplines (ie; ballet, folk, modern, Latin dance, etc.), as well as actors with speaking roles. T21DT strives to create shows that not only present the art form of Argentine tango, but also tell very human stories in our contemporary society. In our first year, T21DT produced and premiered two original shows, El Tango Café and Cambalache: A Holiday Story, both with over 15 cast members. We are a growing dance theater company and as we move ahead to continually expand our repertoire of works and develop our artists, we face funding challenges in general operations and production costs. Although we are excited about our future, we know that it takes a realistic approach to make it work. We need your support! Stay in touch with us and stay up to date on show announcements and T21DT news. If you are in the Chicago area, come see one of our shows. Make a donation and support us. Tango 21 Dance Theater is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Our Story

T21DT strives to create shows that not only present the art form of Argentine tango, but also tell very human stories in our contemporary society. Our repertoire consists of four original theatrical tango shows: "El Tango Café" (premiered 8/2014), "Cambalache: A Holiday Story" (premiered 12/2014), "Feathers: A Tango Journey" (premiered 8/2016), and “Sombras Tango Cabaret” (premiered 11/2018).

We are a growing dance theater company and as we move ahead to continually expand our repertoire of works and develop our artists, we face funding challenges in general operations and production costs.
