Pictured Rock Cruise Boat Tour, a round trip caught on video.
Living is always that once in a life time opportunity. Silly to say, but this year alone I broke my foot, experienced more loss; from work to relations, and wrapping my head around that this is my last birthday in my 20's.
Not too far from home was this place I had set my eyes on when I started hiking - it was Pictured Rocks Lake Shore and years passed knowing it was always close to home but still out of reach.
Somewhere between August reaching New York I camped out as a test run in PA, surviving that ordeal I figured it was great to camp UP MI in the middle of September.
It was as if mother nature was giving one last push to becoming what adulthood is really about. I boondocked out in bear territory with no other campers in their smart warm beds would have thought to venture in the cold unpredictable fall weather.
Snuggled in what was to be a trip of lessons, beauty and what letting go is all about.
The low grumble to this day unsure of the rolling thunder or paws hitting the earth, I clenched my book of prayers and shivering arms together to try and stay at my campsite.
Nonetheless the rain came in and flooded me out, at the same time the sermon was shouting, "Up out of your camp so you can live."
I obliged as the cars running heat sounded way more appealing than sinking into mud on my birthday.
Cramped and crooked necked I stayed across from a small hiking parking area. No sleep in sight I pondered all the wrong things leading up to this moment. 29 years of unfolding tales that made me so strong headed I couldn't be happy where I got myself into.
I laugh now, but seriously, why can't anything go right?
After a little emotion and contrast to the gloomy night, sunshined bright and cleared for the next chapter of the adventure.
The following morning hitting more pavement towards Chapel Falls where I'd complete my first hike since the two snaps on the right foot. It's about a 10 mile hike through all the sweet spots you see in this video boat tour. Don't worry, I have the backroad footage being sorted out now.
