THIS WEDNESDAY - NEO OPEN GYM: TECH AS TASK

What are secrets that you can only say in the dark? What are questions best screamed over a loud hum? When tech is your scene partner, what fights can you get into together? In this Open Gym, Neo lead technician Amina Gilbert .amina and ensemble member Abby Pajakowski will lead participants in an hour-long series of exercises exploring how to play with with the ultimate untouchable collaborators: light and sound. Participants will then get a chance to use the Neo space to create their own work and participate in a workshop showing.

In this 8-week introductory class, students explore core Neo-Futurist tenets of honesty, brevity, and transformation in order to create short plays in our unique, non-illusory aesthetic.

Two years ago, AlΓ© left the city to move back into their childhood home to caretake for their mother. Far from friends, their plans in the wind, AlΓ© turned to the familiar world of TV sitcoms for comfort.Β 

That’s when AlΓ© discovered Frasier.

Now, it’s time for Alé’s SPINOFF. Using the script of Frasier as a roadmap, the cast of performers will explore this time in Alé’s life, deconstructing the sitcom form through the Neo-Futurist lens. Who are we to our parents, who are they to us, what’s changed in the years apart?

β€œSPINOFF is a look at how sitcoms influence our perspective of life and ourselves, how we think things are supposed to go, and how to wrestle with disappointment.”
